Lightmap should work by default, as there IS a virtual C:/ drive included in my wrapper, with the INI dir redirected directly to the lightmap folder, but yes, setting another path should work as well, just know that your mac HD root is pointed as Z:/ in the wrapper if I remenber well. If you want, I can give you my windows app launcher for mac, it basically run most windows program, including quite a few games, on mac osx, without rebooting or using virtualisation. For now, it can run a few dx app, .net 3.5 apps, app based on visual c++, and most of the apps that can run without these addons.
anyway, Ill update my mandelbulb wrapper to include lightmaps and the latest version asap. Let me know if you want my "general" wrapper

sorry for the double post but I have to get this up I don't have enough time to work on the mac port for each version of mandelbulb... BUT I've made an app just for you that will allow you to run quite a lot windows applications straight from your mac, without parallels or vmware, and without rebooting on bootcamp nor needing a windows license, all you have to do is to download the app, follow the instruction I've added on the forum and just launch any windows .exe as you would run any MAC native app. It will obviously not work with every applications, but fractal programs are generally working, and as it was based on my mandelbulb 3D wrapper, it will work at least with this one, all current and if no major change is made in the rendering engine, it should also work with all next version (even if that kind of change ever happens, I made so the wrapper should continue to work with it) the wrapper is located in the multiplatform section of the forum, here is the link : http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?topic=10152.0

I linked to the download of Mandelbulb3Dv1731.zip, understanding this to be a Mac version, but I'm seeing an exe. What am I not getting? Thanks in advance.
BTW, having finally succeeded installing mandelbulber-mac-1.09, I opened a sample file, "render" crashes the app, even on the default, getting this error:
************ Rendering frames ************* Rendering Screen Space Ambient Occlusion. Done 100% 7467 Illegal instruction= 0h0m5s, elapsed = 0h0m0s, iters/s = 4655109 bash-3.2$
I'm after stereo output of whichever 3D fractal app I can get to work, not sure if Mandelbulb supports stereo, thanks for filling me in on that question, but the GUI sure looks more intuitive to get up and moving, so thanks for any help getting it installed on my OSX 10.6.8.

First, thanks a lot Slock for the Wine wrapper, Wow! using Mandelbulb 3D as native app on Mac, this give me a regain of interest for fractal.
This morning I update your wrapper with the new 1.79 version of Mandelbulb 3D and it seem to work perfectly, I replaced the Mandelbulb 3D folder in drive_c/Program Files/ with the 1.79 Window version folder, at first Wine didn't recognize it but after I used advance installation of Wine to point to the new Mandelbulb it work perfectly...
The only bug I got is when I open the software I get a window Title Confirm saying "The m3d Ini-file is now stored in the application folder. Do you want to copy the existing Ini-file from the appdata folder? Note: If you want a completly new installation and access the folders in the applications directory, select "No" "
If I select "Yes" the software is not able to find it formulas, if I select "No" everything work but each time I open the app I get this window and I need to select "No" again, not a big bug, but everything I tried can't solve this little bug

Hi Luc,
this has nothing to do with the wrapper, in the new program versions the "Mandelbulb3d.ini" file is stored in the folder of the program, if it is not found on program start, the rpogram searches in the apddate directory and if it finds it there, it askes you if it should be used and copied to the programs folder. That is basically what the startup screen does.
If it it not copied or at program end stored locally by the programs .exe, you could search for this file and copy it manually to the programs folder. Unfortunately i have no Mac to test something like this, so i guess you will find a solution and maybe share it. Thanks!

Hi, I've uploaded a new version of the wrapper on the forum some time ago (because I, well, completly lost the old wrapper, and I don't want to download it again just to modify it, creating a new one was faster), but it has been moved to the multiplatform app subsection, but this time it's not specific to mandelbulb : in fact; it can launch a qood variety of windows app straight from mac osx, without any virtualization software, it's quite the same thing as my mandelbulb wrapper : launching windows app natively, but this time, you just have to click on the executable, as you would do for any normal mac app, and it will launch all the instructions are in the post (it's pinned)

I did some comparative test between running Mandelbulb3Dv1.791 inside the Wineskin wrapper Slock created for Mandelbuild3Dv1.78 or using the his new interface available at http://www.fractalforums.com/multi-platform/run-almost-any-fractal-program-on-mac-!/ The render time is exactly the same, the only difference is the way the interface is displayed on the screen, check the image, in the upper part is with Window.app; more Mac OSX feel but a little bit slower to display, in the lower part is with the wrapper. Personally I'll use the Window.app because the app is 923 Mb and each Wineskin wrapper add between 200 Mb to 250 Mb to the app you want to run if you use more than 4 Window software you'll save space on your HD and you don't have to build a wrapper for each app you want to run.

That's why I built this wrapper : I have a lot of windows app and I often need to download/test some apps, building a wrapper each time for a tiny app would take me ages and moreover it would take too much space on my HD; that's why I decided to create this one, directly linked to .exe;.bat;.msi;.lnk ... files so I can open it like any other mac app. About the huge size of the app, it's because of the plugins : I installed .net framework 3; direct x (all version from 7 or 8, don't remember); visual c++ runtime; explorerxp (to provide an integrated file browser to the wrapper, so I can run exe installed in my wrapper's program files folder faster and that way the wrapper also has an interface, oh, and also, explorerxp is used to create the file association for most of the extension listed above, wineskin can't run an external exe directly, it has to be launch by an encapsulated program that can run exe files, for that, explorerxp is the best)
I also made this because I know quite a few people that really don't know what's the difference between mac and pc, and when I try to explain them, well, it doesn't work, so I just give them this app, so they can run almost anything (they don't usually use app that can't be ran from this wrapper, it has one of the best compatibility out there, even more since the few last version that are not quite release-ready for now, wine made a big step ahead recently)
anyway thanks for this comparative, I didn't even compare the rendering time (too lazy, shame on me)

Hi, I am running about the same system as you at the moment. I tried Boot Camp, and frankly I didn't like it much. overall it was a bit of a pain in the doo doo. I took a chance and purchased "Parallels Desktop", which is software that runs Windows on a Mac. but it's not like Boot Camp, you don't need a separate partition on your hard drive and you don't have to re-boot to use it. it installs and runs just like any regular software. it has always been stable, it feels good to use and it has never crashed. It has easily run any windows software that I put onto it. I have been running "Mandlebulb 3D" at a good speed and with no problems for a couple of months. I usually render at 2500X3500 pixels and it does that in a few minutes. I would recommend this program
have fun all the best D

Hi, Parallels is very well known, just like vmware, qemu..., but while it has assets, it also has a lot of drawbacks : -it is WAY slower than my wrapper in most case -it actually requires you to buy both windows and the software if you want to be legal -it takes a huge part of your hd, just like bootcamp, while being slower than bootcamp (both to start up and to launch apps) -I would not recommend it for games, though it is more compatible than my wrapper -well, in fact, it just run windows services and processes on top of osx ones, while my wrapper uses osx's one instead, on the one hand, parallels is more compatible, on the other hand, it uses resources and cpu time while it's absolutely unnecessary
I think we saw all the main ways to run mandelbulb on mac on this post : dual-boot, virtualization, and wrapping, only recompilation remains, but even if jesse gave me is source code, I don't think I would be able to modify it and to compile it for mac, even less to keep up with updates, the wrapper does his job very well, so I'll stick with that for know. I'll post an update soon

The wrapper seems to do a good job, though i don't have a mac so i can't judge it really. Since m3d is a windows vcl application, it is not possible to compile it directly for the mac and translating it to firemonkey or something else would be like writing it more or less completely new, forget it.
