I always like simple ideas describing complex problems. If they fit well enough, they actually make it possible to figure out solutions by just messing with the conditions a bit.
Like in this case the idea to make shapes directly anti-shapist, actively longing for diversity - changing that to even just 99% actually is enough to significantly drop segregation. (the percentage resolution isn't particularly meaningful in this case though - really you should imagine those values to go from 0-8, 99% meaning you want at least 7 out of 8 neighbours to not be like you - the same value is assigned to anything up to as low as 87,5%. Still a really nice presentation)
