USA Copyright Office to Increase Registration Fee

As of July 01, 2006, the fee for copyright registration of a Visual Art form will increase from $30 to $45.  The last time the Copyright Office raised the registration fee was in 1999.  Other statutory and filing fees will also increase.  More information can be found on the U.S. Copyright Office Web site at:

Actually I'm not surprised!  The price of everything is going up!

Well, since the original posting here was several years ago, at least two other "Fee" announcements have been made.  The following seems to be the most current:


            AGENCY:  Copyright Office, Library of Congress.
     PUBLICATION:  Fees -- 37 CFR Part 201 [Docket No. RM 2008–9]
            ACTION:  Final rule.
EFFECTIVE DATE:  August 1, 2009.

......  Under the new fee structure, the fee for online registration of a basic claim will remain $35 (see http://www.copyright.gov/fedreg/2007/72fr33690.html ).  The registration fee for Form CO will be raised from $45 to $50 and the registration fee for paper filings of Forms PA, SR, TX, VA, SE and faulty CO will be raised from $45 to $65.  .......

In a way, the price is staying the same since the number of U.S dollars it costs is rising, but the value of the U.S dollar is plummeting.
