Amazing work! It looks like it was carefully carved out of a piece of wood and then stained. I really like the pattern and the coloring.

    It looks like it was carefully carved out of a piece of wood and then stained.

I agree about this appearing as if it were made of wood.  But it reminds me more of burls (or burrs) which have grown on the outer edges, and the rest of the wood has been highly polished.
