I was going to post this in the Humor section, but it goes here just because.

I started a fractal rendering, and it wanted something like 2 days to render.  It's a bit high resolution, so it struck me as no big deal.

I left it running when I went to my employment this morning, and came home to this progress stat:

Has UF been watching my Doctor Who discs??  It's time warping!

I certainly has not been running for 5 years, and I am NOT going to wait 43 years for it to finish!

It's making progress.  The % Complete thingy has moved, but the pixels per second is stuck at zero.  It has moved since I got home from 10.1% to 10.4% - so it's still rendering correctly, I think...

Just posting this for a laugh really.

Maybe it should go in the humor section after all...

Anyone else ever see UF do this?  Maybe it heard me saying not nice things about it  (I do have "issues" with UF, and say so publicly).  Could it be mad at me?

have you put in pauldelbrots location and set a zoom level of 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
which i do sometimes to impress people, on the one hand pauldels center point for the safari produces great spirals on every zoom level, and ultrafractal
can deal with it ... but rather slooooooooooooooooooooooow

cheesy

Nah, the magnification is only about E200 or so.

Like I said, not a deep zoom at all.  Just making a high resolution spiral for use in a project.

Just - during the day - something happened and it chose to stop making sense with the time stamps.  It's up to 13% already, so it's definitely not really wanting that much time  (the remaining time is under 300,000 hours now).  So it knows it hiccuped, I guess.

Maybe it got a hold of my New Year's Eve Celebratory Substances??   champagne toast   A Beer Cup   afro

are you sure you need 300.000 of iterations !?
although i cant see any black areas that might exceed this, but spirals can be found on lower zoom levels

and DONT USE GUESSING FOR HIGH QUALITY RENDERING!!!!!

this might give you optimization errors, especially on small scales, it is not so important on smooth colorings, but when using smooth colorings it is not of any use after all wink guessing is when 4 corners of a square have same color, uf assumes that the whole inside is of same color, and this can be a real pain in the ass to discover it on a final render....

I just let UF decide the iterations, had it on Automatic.  And I never knew what Guessing was, I just left it at it's default when it opens   embarrass

I thought the first number was days too, but seem to recall figuring out that it was hours a while ago.  But I could be remembering wrong...  I've slept since then!

better take less zoom, this is not finishing wink

and, btw, the zoom level i posted above:
100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
is 10^76
and the zoom level you are using right now is:
10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
which is basically the number that you said above, 10^200

so, be assured that this can take ages ....

and when uf sais this is the iteration count needed, you can assume that you are basically need around 200.000 iterations on average for every pixel, and using this virtual numbers ... not good ....

It was a left over file from a really deep zoom sequence.

The final image was E800 or so, and took about a week to render.  I'm prepared for a day or two here.  I have to work all week anyhow, so wont be doing much playing.

In the time these posts took it's already at 13.4%, so it seems to be moving at an acceptable speed, just not showing the time correctly at all  (this did not happen on the E800 zoom I rendered before!).  It just lost track of something, somewhere...
