Happy new year Fractalnauts!

During December my computer rendered 30 days(!) at the 360° / 4K UltraHD version of my Fractal Death Valley animation. Now you can enjoy the flight over this fractal planet in a full 360 degree panorama view.
Move your smartphone. Use clicked mouse, WASD-keys or navigation wheel when viewed on monitor. Use your Cardboard, Oculus Rift or other preferred virtual reality device.
Turn on the maximum 2160p resolution for maximum detail and view fullscreen!

360° animation here:
Click the youtube button to view it in 360° mode at youtube. The 360° mode works not in the forum player and not with Internet Explorer!
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/XOW641r5ubc&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/v/XOW641r5ubc&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

I decided to publish also the non-360° version as 4K video. The perspective looks a bit strange that way but you get a better overview on the fractal around you.
4K UltraHD / non-360° animation here:
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/wquyr07gL-8&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/v/wquyr07gL-8&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

Enjoy the ride!

Nice one!
The weird stony structures near the end of the trip are very cool.
Not watched in VR yet, but will do soon.

Thank you friends for all for your wonderful comments. grin

Download high quality MP4
You can now download a 2GB large version of this video with a much better quality from WEARVR:
https://www.wearvr.com/apps/fractal-death-valley

Also VRIDEO host a version in better quality for viewing or download:
http://www.vrideo.com/watch/bpunHUho

Tip: avoid Ambient Shadow steps / layers
A bigger problem with this animation was an ambient shadow steps / layer problem, that I have described here:
http://www.fractalforums.com/mandelbulb-3d/avoid-ambient-shadow-steps-layers/
I had to change the ambient shadow mode for the 360° version of this animation to DEAO (in the normal version the problematic parts were often outside view). This changed the final images more or less so I had to adjust colors and lights again for each of the 74 keyframes  tongue stuck out That made the animation better suited for compression and removes flickering.

Tip: compression with gstreamer
My previous videos were uploaded as high quality XVID-files. But that is not the best option to meet the preferred encoding options:
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en-GB&rd=1
My free X264 made problems in Virtual Dub, RAD Vidoe or Magix.
So my brother created a commandline to encode the video from Uncompressed AVI to H264 in MP4 container via the free gstreamer:
http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/download/

The commandline is:
Code:
gst-launch-1.0 filesrc location=DeathValley_uncompressed.AVI ! decodebin name=d mp4mux name=m ! filesink location=DeathValley_H264_bitrate75000.mp4 d. ! queue ! progressreport ! videoconvert ! x264enc bitrate=75000 cabac=true interlaced=false b-adapt=false bframes=2 ! queue ! m.video_0 d. ! queue max-size-buffers=0 max-size-bytes=0 max-size-time=0 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! voaacenc ! aacparse ! queue ! m.audio_0

Simply change the filesrc location, the filesink location and maybe adjust bitrate (75000 is quite big even for 4K).

Hope these tips are useful.

Amazing! This is a really good use of the 360° video technique.
