I've recently gotten interested in fractal art, but I don't know much about the software involved, or any of that, so I'm pretty much a raw newb.  I'm good with Photoshop, however, so I'm confident I will learn in time.  That being said, I look forward to getting to know you all and discussing this fascinating and elegant art form.

Hello and Welcome to the forum!

I'm sure you'll enjoy the many and varied stuffs to be found here.

Have you found a fractal generator you get along with yet?  It's very subjective, and in some cases dependent upon your computer's operating system.

Are you interested in 2D, or 3D fractals?

That's a good starting point.

Meanwhile, have fun browsing the posts and galleries here.  Then try to find the software which made the sort of images you liked best   afro  (if the artist didn't say what was used, check where it's posted - often these things are grouped by the software used)  (if still no luck, ask!)

Thanks for all the replies!  I look forward to checking out those links.

Right now I'm using an eval copy of UltraFractal 5.06, and I like it pretty well.  What I like best about fractal art is that it starts with a simple, elegant function, and results in very organic images.  In fact, it's the natural shapes of 3D fractals that I like the best, and I'm hoping to learn that as I proceed up the knowledge curve on this subject.

I also use photoshop, and like to experiment on my fractals with that.  In fact, I've attached a simple mandelbrot fractal I split into two layers, chromed one, then multiplied them for some really wild results.  I put them both up here (hopefully they attach; I had less luck with my avatar) 

Probably not going to knock any eyes out with those of you who are experienced at this, but it's got me psyched.

There is one thing that you can count on when it comes to fractals, nobody here knows it all.  And since new areas are being explored regularly, on a very progressive rate, it should keep you interested for quite a long time.

Well, I do have to admit that I have become rather jaded when it comes to viewing fractal images.  But after seeing hundreds of thousands (probably millions) for over 20 years now, it takes something really striking to get my interest.

Always on the look out for a new technique or use of fractals, so keep posting your creations here.    wink
