Just found this article, probably old news here, can't see when the article was written...

Anyway, there are a lot of Daniel Whites and other familiar renderings but I also found this image that I have not seen before:


And if I am right Jos Leys is also part of this forum, I am curious how that image was made!
What formula/power etc. ?

I believe that particular web page was put together in January.  In fact, it was last modified on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 09:48:36.

As to some of the text in that page, there are several miss-spellings, including Jos Leys name.  (I have corrected your posting to reflect the true spelling.)  And yes, Jos is a member of this Forum.

Hi. I also saw this image on Jos' site and I don't think it was posted on the forum. I'm pretty sure it's a classic 8th order Mandelbulb cut in half in the middle to reveal the 2D z^8+c fractal.

What I don't get (cannot slice in pixelbender yet) is:

Are there a "real" inside?

I mean are the inside images I have seen just an "inverted" bulb?
Meaning the "walls" in these slice-images have zero thickness.

I think that yes there is real inside and yes it's just an "inverted" image of the exterior (the frontier wall have no thickness), but it is not possible to see it with the tools I use (UF and Dave Makin's formula). However I was able to navigate in the inside using a realtime mandelbulb viewer done by Isokron : http://www.fractalforums.com/mandelbulb-implementation/yet-another-realtime-viewer/msg11579/#msg11579

OK, got it right then!

I have seen some of Daniel Whites inside renderings, but I have missed yours id=1329 was really nice!

And seeing it makes me understand that the inside is "real" even if it just inverted, you can see things that are not visible from the outside!

As said before, the inside needs more exploration!  afro

I can't really speak for the original Mandelbulb, but the Riemandelettuce (the monopolar version of the mandelbulb) is surrounded by large amounts of dust, that seem to be almost space-filling in places. Seen from the outside, this dust obscures the surface of the solid core. Inside views should therefore be able to reveal new structures that are invisible from the outside.

This dust is most prominent in the hemisphere opposite the (single) pole. This means the original Mandelbulb might not have this same quality.

(I am in the process of making more meaningful views with my brute force renderer, so hopefully I will be able to illustrate this a bit better. But it takes a while to sample a 1600^3 volume. :-)
