Are you sure this set is connected? Look when the first tower appears : its top seems to float in the air

What an amazing video. Favourited! I love the end part where it gets quicker and quicker.

Can you make a version at double the resolution of this?

The quality of youtube is less good than the .avi

I have more vids to calculate ! Although this one surely deserves a top quality, why not with motion blur and AA.

Do you want the upr ?

Some non-integer powers are definitely not connected smiley
The integer powers require considerable mathematical analysis to discover whether they're connected or not and if connected if they are indeed topologically spheres.

Awesome video!
Here's an idea for a different way of growing the mandelbulb, stick with the power 8 but instead of z^8 + c you animate on z^8 + k*c where k goes from 0 to 1, it should show the bulbs 'blooming' from an initially flat sphere.

Thanks, good idea. I'll do that and put it my loooong render queue!

I also want to do a nice view of the non-integer floating castle smiley

Thanks yeah, love to see the original if poss.

Doesn't Youtube have a feature to allow much higher quality even above the HQ setting? I've seen some terrificly big Youtube ones before, even covering the whole screen.

there are also some, being longer than 10 mins...
I really wonder how to get those better vids.

Though, it also seems to highly depend on the codec or something.
I saw vids which had horrible quality, even with HD on but still loaded slower than slow, when HD off and then there where super sharp HD-off vids, where only the sound seemed to do the difference between HD on/off, which loaded very fast in both situations...

Seems that there should be a tut: "How to upload Videos to YouTube without too much quality loss"

Nice render cheesy - though, you'd only have to carefully look to a 2D-Mandelbrot with exponent-shift and you'll notice, that also there sometimes seem to be buds which are not connected at first... The connections form later, when closer to the integer exponent smiley

For YouTube after extensive testing I can share the following.

XVid codec gives the best end quality on youtube.  I use VirtualDub to do the encoding.  For best results generate your initial frames/movie as an uncompressed AVI, then convert to XVid, then upload the XVid AVI to youtube.  Both VirtualDub and XVid codec are free.

The initial finished upload will be low res garbage until youtube runs the HD pass over the video.

For image/frame sizes use;
480x360 for default quality
640x360 for high quality
1280x720 for HD

Hope that helps.

@ZsquaredplusC
thanks for the tips. I will try that, because I am frustrated with the loss of quality. It takes days or even weeks to calculate animations in 800*600 or 1024*768, I save them directly using DivX in UF, and the final result on Youtube is awful sad

better do render single frames, and recode it with highest quality settings ( as it makes sense )
you can use "vitualdub" for encoding a sequence of images

btw. did i mention that every morning i watch the wavy animation of yours ?!

Huh ? Please let me know where I can get a free XVid codec for compression.

David, Maybe you are confusing xvid (free) with divx (commercial)?

Grab and install xvid from here http://www.xvid.org/

Once installed it will show up in VirtualDub under the Video Compressor option.

I use the default quality setting for xvid and find it is fine for every type of video I throw at it.

In the past I tried MOV, H264, DIVX, MP4 and even uncompressed AVI uploading to YouTube.  xvid always seems to give great compression/quality and youtube doesn't seem to mess it up as much as with other formats when they do their conversion phase.

Ah, yes I was smiley
Thanks for the link, I'll try it smiley
Previously I've been using something called "Streamclip" that gives you access (invisibly) to compression using installed QT codecs - I've been compressing to h264 mov files and uploading those but it's noticeable that youtube reduces the quality - though not so much now there's HD smiley

Here is an updated version, with some cut mandelbulb and the beginning, and a zoom at the end. Enjoy your breakfast wink
