I think there could be a stability issue with version 2.5.4. I started rendering a zoom out sequence last night from e413 and the program terminated unexpectedly at least 8 times before it reached e400. A few times also rendering stopped mid way and the program had to be terminated and restarted by me. I have restarted the render with version 2.5.3 and have not had any problems, so far.

Interesting and thanks for keeping 2.5.3
I'll have a look!

I have uploaded a new version of Kalles Fraktaler, now 2.5.5
- Bugifx: A float overflow could hang high power zooms
- Bugfix: One pixel sized glitches were not always "covered" as intended
- More additional references are added, now up to 130. This is because SeryZone's program's histogram coloring showing glitches that are not corrected too much.
- When zooming deep into higher zooms, I realized the need for a quick preview of the whole image. So the image is now generated in 8x8 pixels as a first step, similar to how Fractal eXtreme is doing.

Also a new version of Key Frame Movie Maker, now 1.22:
- Bugfix: There were "jumps" in the color when negative cycling and fractional color division. As Yann has showed (with his own movie program) really cool movies can be made with these settings.

Thanks all for your contribution! Now it is midsummer time in Sweden and time to leave the computer for a while smiley

Some notes on very old post:

The JVM (HotSpot) does not support SIMD in any meaningful way in that it does not auto-vectorize.  It will only generate scalar operations.  Perhaps some of the experimental ones will such as Graal.

I wouldn't bother writing anything in assembly.  Just use the intrinsic functions as they are supported by gcc, clang, visual studio, and intel's compilers.  The compilers won't do as good a job but less hassle.

Thanks for the update! Just downloaded both programs. Will try the movie maker with DivIter < 1 and negative color cycle.

 thank you post swing

I don't think it is disk io that is the bottleneck of kfmm. Because if you check 'test only' it is about as slow as when movies are made (if you consider it used 2 frames for test and 6 for real render)
That's a very good point. When I wrote that post I'd used the "test only" mode a few times, but it hadn't clicked in my head that it was running at the same speed as the full render. I think I'm just way too used to writing write-heavy programs. lol

New movie done!

Just a bit of color cycling, a color palette with some pastel-like contrasts, some playfull zooming speeds ... and of course a little addition from youtube. Which makes the details pop up out of the waved-colored iteration goodness.

Params to be found on the youtube description.

Lovely! And it is very cool that you did it on Linux  smiley

Ha, so you admit linux is cool and still develop for on  M$  police

No, just kidding. I think I read something about being very hard to compile, not sure if it was about Kalles Fraktaler or another fractal zoomer. You could do one thing that would make me happier than I already am with your software. Make the key frame movie maker write all frames directly to JPEG or PNG (like SeryZone's map visualizer does, I still have to put myself on that). Because if the disk space and my patients allows, I try to do some scaling and blurring with ImageMagick (command line tool, perfect for batch operations). Recently I found out that mencoder (part of MPlayer) also can do blurring, while recoding the videos. But the flexibility of mencoder makes it hard to use. Maybe I'll write some tutorial to use with Kalles Fraktaler if I manage to get a comfortable workflow.

The KF source code is very windows-centric. Thankfully it works on Wine...

Yes I do indeed admit that there are other cool OS. But unfortunately I have never ever tried Linux in any way. Unfortunately.

I don't think it is so windows centric. wink It should be fairly simple to split windows specific code from general computations I think (hope). The big problem I had when I tried to compile it with gcc is all the operators of CFixedFloat. Return variable or reference, const or not, etc etc etc.... And if I get it working in gcc it doesn't work in VS10. So I didn't had the time to make it work in both and then I skipped gcc. Unfortunately. I succeeded to make the operators of floatexp work in both compilers, but it is much simpler.

Since not all of us lives in areas with reliable power supply, I have made an update on Kalles Fraktaler, now version 2.5.6.
The current frame is saved in intervals and the zoom can be resumed from the first frame.

Lets imagine you've just spent the last 24 hours creating a series of zoom out images/keyframes and now there is something you don't like about the gradient. Currently, as far as I know there is no way to apply a different gradient to the fractal data without rendering the whole zoom out series again. Will the ability to apply different gradients to the fractal data be implemented in future versions?

As a workaround you can use seryzone's program to change the colors to something you like better.
