Members of FF, if you have gone to see past Fractal Forums old Fractal Art contest reviews In the Fractal Forums Celebrity news, located in http://www.fractalforums.com/discuss-fractal-forums/ in the huge lack of comments section>http://www.fractalforums.com/discuss-fractal-forums/a-huge-lack-of-comments/

and noticed your old videos are not there or playing? Its because some," YOUTUBE," videos are no longer supported by Flash players

Members Of FF, this is a temporary solution for now! We did the following and it worked.
Please Note, Fractal Forums members : If the VIDEO you want to look at is not visible on your computer screen : It's because Flash player does not support youtube videos anymore. You have to see the videos only by first downloading and installing Shockwave video player on your own individual computer, then follow the instructions here : Sorry for the inconvenience.
https://get.adobe.com/shockwave/thankyou/?installer=Shockwave_12.2.5.195_Full_(OS_X_10.6_and_above)  Enjoy 7/4/17 update

.
note : if the video STILL does not DISPLAY OR PLAY, THEN PLEASE CHANGE AND USE ANOTHER BROWSERS  SUCH AS  Opera, Fire fox, OR Internet explorer to see the rest of the forum videos.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Or you can just click the YouTube button in the lower right corner to play the video on YouTube itself.

Adobe Flash is being phased out as a security hazard.

FF MEMBERS

"What do Engineers do?" Engineers solve problems. But first they must understand what the problem is!
Note : Even though, as announced on 7/4/17, an UPDATE saying :  We said before some Youtube past contest videos were not displaying or playing, in the contest reviews In the Fractal Forums Celebrity news section, located in the huge lack of comments section>http://www.fractalforums.com/discuss-fractal-forums/a-huge-lack-of-comments/

and we recommended as a solution and a work around, by installing shockwave player, HERE>
https://get.adobe.com/shockwave/thankyou/?installer=Shockwave_12.2.5.195_Full_(OS_X_10.6_and_above)

We still have discovered a few inconsistencies For example,   Safari Browser, sometimes fails to show and play, the youtube old contest videos, and also the Chrome browser?  These three browser work fine, the browser called opera, and Fire fox browser and Internet explorer browser, "in many cities," also displays them and plays them with no problems . Why is this?

We would love to hear some international feed back from FF members. A kind of survey, to let us know if your are able to see the old contest YouTube videos in the section>http://www.fractalforums.com/discuss-fractal-forums/a-huge-lack-of-comments/

Check them out and let us know what your experiences are? Have you installed Flash player updates or Shockwave updates, and have they worked for you well ? Are these updates available in different countries across the globe?

NOTE : if the video STILL does not DISPLAY OR PLAY, THEN PLEASE CHANGE AND USE ANOTHER BROWSER  SUCH AS  Opera, Fire fox, OR Internet explorer to see the rest of the forum videos.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
Update 7/10/17

You are discovering the bane of all web designers!

There is no way to make every page display the same for everyone on every browser everywhere.

Not all people even update their browsers and on older browsers, things change.

The only way to be sure all of the videos you want posted will appear for all viewers is to host them locally.  We will have that ability on the next iteration, but for now, with 3rd party sites hosting the videos, it is impossible to "future proof" the posts.  We are at the mercy of ever-changing web standards and fickle admin at youtube, and sometimes even the members themselves removing or updating the posts.

As for your request to confirm things, my browser  (Firefox 54.01) displays the videos fine from the east coast of the USA.

To keep things stable, consider posting screenshots.  That way even if the videos don't work, there will be something there to give an idea of what the post is discussing.

Sadly, over time, this problem will never go away and will only continue to worsen as more browsers and new embed codes arrive on the scene.

I wish there was a better answer, but this is the nature of the internet and we can't change that!

As true as that might be, this particular problem I'm kinda glad for: Flash really should have ceased being a thing ages ago.

In my Firefox browser, the YouTube videos linked in this forum don't appear as well. Not even a preview image is shown. The only way to watch an embedded video is to click on "Reply" and copy the YouTube link from the quoted text, then paste it into the address bar. roll eyes I hope this will still work when this forum will change to readonly mode in the future... Perhaps the YouTube link could be written in addition under the video?

YouTube Embedded Players and Player Parameters

From above link:
Deprecation Notice
YouTube <object> embeds were deprecated on January 27, 2015. Please migrate your applications to use <iframe> embeds, which can intelligently use whichever embedded player – HTML (<video>) or Flash (<object>) – the client supports.

Embed a YouTube player
Best practice: IFrame embeds are the recommended method for embedding a YouTube player because the IFrame will select the appropriate player based on the client's capabilities and available YouTube file formats.
...
click on "Reply" and copy the YouTube link from the quoted text   ...Perhaps the YouTube link could be written in addition under the video?

Wish I had thought of getting the link from the quoted text.
I would also like the YouTube link to be visible after the new forum software creates the embedded element.

I also use NoScript, uBlock Origin and uMatrix to block as much malicious web activity as I can. (breaks some site's functionality)

I currently have 4 versions of Firefox 54.0.1(64 bit), ESR, Beta and (a 54.0.1 version with minimal addons installed).
It helps to troubleshoot problems.

Not as such.

A totally empty site, apart from forum software, and brand new databases will give us a lot more room - but not enough to be the next Vimeo or Youtube and host everyone's videos HD without any compression!

We will have the ability, but will need to be careful how we use it.

When a web hosting provider says "Unlimited Storage" it usually means 120 GB - 240 GB if you pay more.

For HD Video, that is not a lot since they run in the GB no matter what!

We'll probably host only a select few  (like contest winners with the members' consent) or stuff like that.

But we will be using HTML5 / CSS3 to embed them all.  That is not possible on this site as it stands.

So unless the nature of the universe changes dramatically, the future will always present challenges for maintaining the content on any website  -  ours included.

Over the next ten years, the question is, will the new iteration of Fractal Forums be both desktop, laptop and smartphone adaptable, because most of the worlds masses will only have smart phones?

That is our goal!

It's simply a matter of getting a "responsive" theme for the forum.

Same core software so it wont be unfamiliar.

It may look different using such a theme, but it will function the same.

The tricky part is finding a theme that gets maintained by it's creator since each new version of the software may or may not require updates in the code for the theme.

But even that is no problem since if an update breaks something we can always get a different, more current, theme which is compatible.

So this is definitely part of the plan and, in fact, something we have been working on for the last week or three!

Thanks Sockratease, for the quick response. It's appreciated.

You said that's our goal, a responsive theme is key!
That objective, if achieved will be," a Win, Win for everybody!
Well that sounds like the new site will be mobile friendly, but what's the possibility of it being mobile friendly look like so far?

There is no question if it will be mobile friendly!

100% Certain of that.

At first it will likely not be the default theme since it will look so different  (we want as smooth a transition as possible), but it will be an optional theme from Day 1.

That's part of why we're taking our time with this.

We want to have everything in place and properly tested before opening.

Public Beta is still scheduled for the coming weeks, so watch for that announcement!

Pleased, contented and most gratified are we, to hear your response Sockratease. And, if your team can accomplish this before 2018. To you and your collaborative team, and the hard work they are putting into this effort, we want you all to know, that we understand, and acknowledge the complexity of this project, and want to wish you all success, and thank all of you, from the weavers!

intro:

"TouchDesigner 099's GLSL shader system is the most convenient fragment shader playground I've ever encountered. The network editor makes it easy to design complex feedback systems because every image in the pipeline can be seen. It's easy to inspect the RGBA values of pixels, rows, and columns of images. Additionally, these values can be trailed over time, which is a great debugging technique not as easily available in WebGL or C++ environments. TouchDesigner is where pros should spend their time crafting shaders and where beginners should get started." - David Braun, Leviathan
