I've been working for the past couple of months on a Macintosh program that creates MandelBrot and Julia sets.

It has a lot of control over the colors used to color these plots, and offers live animation of the colors in plots.

The application requires Mac OS 10.4. It's a "universal" application, so it runs at full speed on both PowerPC and Intel based macs. It runs REALLY fast on Intel macs.

If anybody is interested in trying it out, post a message to the board and I'll email it to you.

I've set up a full featured version of the app to expire in 30 days.

Is this expiration based upon the date of installation, upon the first use, upon the date it was emailed, or upon the version creation date??

What size is the installation file, and is it in a compressed format??  How much disk space is required for full installation??

Wow, that's a lot of questions in a few sentences.

My goal for now with the expiration date is to control distribution of the program since it's still in development. I don't want versions spreading around the net uncontrolled. I may eventually decide to sell it, and I want early versions to expire.

For now, I've hard-coded an exiration date into the program. I haven't packaged it into an installer yet, and most schemes that have an expiration date based on the date of installation are pretty easy to hack. The hard-coded date is harder. If you get interested in the program I could make a new version for you with a longer lifetime.

The program right now is just a zip archive.  It takes a bit less than 600k once you decompress it. The zipped file is around 200k. That size includes the release notes and readme files, as well as several sample (empty) plot files and a few sample color scheme definition files. The plot files are saved without the plot data - they are just the parameters that let you generate the plots on your computer. That way the files are tiny.

I should really have posted this in the Announcements and news section. I created a post there, and added a link for those who want to download and try FractalWorks. Here is the link to the other thread:
