May I ask you a question?

Do you think the images in next Galery is Art?

Dear Jules,

This is a tricky question...
To tell if something is art is extremely difficult. I have never seen a real good definition.
To tell you if your work is art...is it important? You obviously have a lot of fun making fractals. That is what counts.
I am a real life artist, I draw, but even if one is an artist doesn't say all the artist is creating is art.
Your question is one that many fractalartist have asked...I have never seen a good answer, but maybe some of you can give a good definition.

Personally, I do not care whether this gallery or something else is "Art" or not.  Nor do I care what others call "Art".  All I know is what I like and dislike.  If there is something I totally enjoy seeing so much (and it does not cost me an arm and a leg), then I may purchase it for my own enjoyment.  Otherwise I just look or not look, depending on the situation.

I will leave the definition of "Art" to the politicians and those that have a need to classify such things.    wink

Yes Paul, I agree with you fully.
"Art" is just a name, a title, it doesn't say anything about how one feels or sees it.

I agree with Titia and Paul. Personally ... I like the images, but would prefer to not produce any definitions.

I disagree with all of the above. I think the only question is whether the intention of the creator was to create a piece of art. I think anything that attempts to be art is, by definition, art. A harder question which immediately follows from this definition is weather the result is a successful piece or whether it fails in a certain respect.

Asking 'is this art' is a bit like asking 'is this true' or 'is this language'.

As I like to say, "you can say what you like, but I know about art".
