I have started to write a book about the search of the mandelbulb,
i do not want to take credit for it alone, but i would like to be the editor of a book describing the search for, and history,
anyone interested in joining contact me, right now i am creating a basic structure like:

- introduction
-- deterministic chaos
--- the logistic function
--- ...
-- the mandelbrot
-- ...
-- variants
--- alternating a formula
-- ...
- Theory
-- Complex Numbers
-- Quaternions
- the search for and quest for 3d mandelbrot
-- Why ?
-- polar coordinates
-- spherical coordinates
- implementation details
-- ray marching methods
-- distance estimation
--- ...
--- gpu implementations
--- volume rendering
--- global illumination methods
--- ...
- outlook
-- surface extraction
-- benchmarking
-- ...

this is just a rough outline, and is open for discussion, first we should discuss about the structure of the book,
and then after a structure is layed out, selected people could start to write, i would like to take care for introduction
and outlook sections, for sure the book wil be filled with lots of images, but it should be as a start for people
who are interested in programming fractals, and so it should also contain lots of *easy* source code

You can count me in - at least I can do a section on the "delta DE" method - in particular the algorithm that uses an array for storing the minimum distances on a given ray for each iteration to avoid over-stepping as that's not only necessary in delta DE but also useful in avoiding over-steppiing using analytical DE in Julia renders. Plus the "missed solid" checking that can enhance delta DE at less cost than reducing step sizes. Also I would refer to the "auto-power" correction method for iteration smoothing smiley
Someone more mathematically qualified would be better regarding a description of analytical DE and its implimentation smiley

The mahs section should include a description of multiplication since Jos Leys' method for calculation of the derivative uses it.
The mathematical properties should be discussed too - i.e. (I think I'm correct) commutative but not associative (neither multiplication over multiplication nor multiplication over addition).

I have started to write a book about the search of the mandelbulb,

Well it was more like a search for a 3D Mandelbrot in which the Mandelbulb was discovered by accident wink
And the search continues...

"The discovery of the Mandelbulb" would be better smiley

You could place the skeleton on Wikibooks or something like that. I can help with parts of the theory.
