i finally went on my first event with a interactive kinect visualisation, the set up was the following:

- a dark black pathway, in its corner a back projected area was lit by a video beamer attached to the computer
- right at the end and at the beginning of the corner was placed a kinect camera on the ground
- the image shows the rest of the installation where other dudes used 3 big projection areas for their stuff ( we werent connected )
- the image is taken from outside the dark pathway
- it used a kaliset hybrid where the left and right hands controlled seed points

- results/remarks, kinect has a very low affect radius, needs careful placement and orientation to cover larger area
- people needed to get introduced to the system, without introduction it reacted as a motion detector, but people werent aware that they could modify the "kaleidoscope",
- after they got introduced they where happy playing around and some got really mesmerized

take a look:

nice, i think i am going to bring just my old pentium laptop without additional hardware, flames and hybrids are ideal for using in interactive environments, although it seems hard to map the input data in a meaningful way to the parameters, and when it comes down to further controlling the rendering it can get quite hard when it comes to choosing a particular parameter or choosing another formula

and btw. chaotica is using pure software rendering without gpu support ?! i was using a gpu shader and the unity game engine to set up my stuff, and then i wrote a little controller to connect shader parameter to a kinect

due to the low latency the effect seems to react slowly, especially for fast (dancing) visualisation, but i experienced (see previous thread) that it can lead to nice visualisations by extending the latency and just use very slow interpolations, in a way that motion influences the picture, but not totally controls it ...
