just a quick and dirty implementation of the new volumetric light. used a parameter ported from mandelbulber.
some facts:
1 x directional volumetric light
resolution - 1024 x 768 / 3 x Antialiasing
time to render: around 1:20 h on a 6 core amd system
time for volumetric light map: below 10 minutes

everyone ever calculated volumetric lights in mandelbulber will have wet eyes at this point. I can only guess how long this would have been taking in buddhis package (I never tried this resolution) somewhat between 24 and 48 hours...

the quality seems to be at least coequal. the control over effect is pretty easy.

so I can only say: very well done jesse - you proved, that this effect is possible in an acceptable time.

side note: no issues about stability noticed
