A Journey in The Mandelbrot set
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: The film "A Journey in The Mandelbrot set" represents a virtual flight over and dive into the traditional Mandelbrot set fractal. However, instead of just zooming in or out being anchored to a fixed point, it builds dynamic relations between shapes in the fractal and objects/events/ideas from our human life. The original film is realized in HD 720p. A smaller version 640x360 is uploaded on YouTube: The software for rendering the fractal frames and animating the flight using NURBS technology has been written from scratch by the author. Some third party software is used for image manipulation, morphing and packing the frames into a movie. No software, hardware or mathematical formulae were harmed during the production of this film. Depicted fractal locations are virtual but not fictitious. Any resemblance to other areas of the Mandelbrot set fractal is completely and mathematically justifiable. ziegfrid | March 21, 2013, 09:35:28 AM Great examples of what I try to explain to people! Formulas shapes at low iterations have lot of value for people who make figurative fractal art as I do. The animation could be a bit smoother in some places, but excellent movie! |
Guest | February 05, 2012, 10:28:10 PM Your video is quite good. The music sounds so much like Enya's. |
slon_ru | January 29, 2011, 12:55:25 AM nice ! |
AGUS | June 10, 2010, 01:13:59 AM Congratulations, winner... wonderful film ![]() |
LhoghoNurbs | May 02, 2010, 11:32:18 AM I'm glad that you liked it. It was quite hard to make the movie, but now I'm happy that I finished it just in time. |
Pauldelbrot | May 02, 2010, 06:52:07 AM Impressive! Technical quality is excellent, and an A for originality of concept. |
Guest | May 01, 2010, 07:16:55 PM Presentation was impeccable, from start to finish! Quite inspirational for a newbie like me. |
Guest | April 18, 2010, 06:44:01 PM Cool work and interesting |
LhoghoNurbs | April 12, 2010, 04:23:06 PM No, I did the necklace manually with an image editing program. The only real thing in that frame is the head of the zipper - it is the zipper of my rucksack. |
fractalchemist | April 12, 2010, 04:17:50 PM I liked it from beginning to end, and I would like a mandelbrot necklace too...Is it really existing? |
knighty | April 08, 2010, 10:47:51 PM I liked particularily the beginig ![]() |
Guest | March 31, 2010, 08:19:22 PM Something different to other "classical" mandelbrot-videos. Very, very nice! I watched the video three times in a row! |
cKleinhuis | March 31, 2010, 04:09:03 PM yes, beautiful necklace! ![]() |
LhoghoNurbs | March 31, 2010, 02:22:08 PM And you did notice the shape of the jewellery, didn't you? |
cKleinhuis | March 31, 2010, 02:17:41 PM did i mention i like the first decolletee impression most ?! |
stardust4ever | March 31, 2010, 07:56:35 AM Simply amazing!!! I love all the awesome imagery you have placed into the video ![]() |
bib | March 30, 2010, 05:42:19 PM of course I was kidding, see the smileys ![]() I think you take a serious option on winning the competition ! It's been a long time since I had not been watching a "basic" Mandelbrot animation until the end without skipping any part. |
JackOfTraDeZ | March 30, 2010, 02:37:29 AM Very imaginative. I don't have a chance here. ![]() |
cKleinhuis | March 29, 2010, 10:48:33 PM i hope my 800 hours ongoing animation will make it into the compo too ![]() |
LhoghoNurbs | March 29, 2010, 10:04:32 PM I didn't find in the rules that starting early is forbidden. Maybe there are some implicit rules which I'm not aware of. If this is true, accept my apologies and don't vote for my entry, but nevertheless enjoy it with all you heart. If you are kidding, then just imagine how hard would be to clean and shine fractal shoes ... you would need a Barbie-doll sized brush and a lot of time. |
bib | March 29, 2010, 09:42:26 PM Great video ! My favourites are the fractal shoes. If it was started before the competition, it should be removed, it's unfair ! ![]() ![]() |
LhoghoNurbs | March 29, 2010, 05:21:22 PM I started it two months ago and finished it two days ago. So it is coincidence that I'm ready right for the competition. The only modification which was specifically done for the contest is to speed-up the closing credits in order to fit into 5 minutes. The original was 5 minutes and 8 seconds. |
cKleinhuis | March 29, 2010, 05:16:50 PM was it produced for the competition ?! or did you have it just in pipeline ?! |
cKleinhuis | March 29, 2010, 11:58:03 AM wow, this is what i call an interesting trip! great associations! great music! |
