In the 23rd century, starship C-57D reaches the distant planet Altair IV to determine the fate of the 20 year old ‘Bellerophon’ expedition. The ship has set down among the gargantuan remnants of the Krell civilisation – formerly underground, but now partially exposed by erosion – a highly advanced native race that mysteriously died out suddenly 200,000 years before. A large scouting party is now on the ground, and is about to spread out in hopes of discovering some clue as to what may have happened to the Bellerophon and its crew.
