Heighway Dragon with accurate DE
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Created using Ultra Fractal. A slight zoom into the Heighway Dragon with the outside coloured using distance estimation values. Here it's clear that the DE values are very accurate, this is because the bailout radius was increased sufficiently to avoid overlapping of bailout spheres from one iteration depth to another. The drawback with this is that using higher bailout values when rendering using the standard escape-time method for IFS where all paths down the IFS tree are checked for every point causes large increases in render times - in this case a bailout radius of 1.85 renders in under 7.5 seconds whereas a bailout radius of 16 takes 6.5 minutes !
