Fractal fluorite
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: Crystals are the less fractal patterns that nature can form. Straight lines, cubes, trianglular shapes etc...crystals are too euclidian, and not irregular enough. That is why they look so apealing to our eye.
But crystals can also display beautiful fractal patterns and self similarities, take a look at this fluorite from Illinois, I find it outstanding !.

Oh no, not self-collected ! I wish I did !!
This one comes from a mine in the region of Cave-In-Rock.

It's a good specimen of Fluorite, indeed. Is it selfcollected?

I think our attempts to learn about fractals is really an attempt to understand what nature already knows, and has perfected.
