'The Ends of Invention' Smallbay | ||||||

Description: Mandelbulb 3D v1.8.9 DEcombinate in min mode using: SphereHeightMapIFS/_Polyfolding/koch_cube/SierpHilbert/_reciprocalZ3/_translate An image inspired by a recent re-reading of Iain M. Banks's superb 'Consider Phlebas'. We're in a so-called 'smallbay' in the humungous GSV (General Systems Vehicle) 'The Ends of Invention', where 'Kraiklyn's Free Company' - aboard their ship the 'Clear Air turbulence' - have docked prior to some nefarious activity.... MarkJayBee | May 30, 2013, 01:02:33 PM Thanks guys, glad you like this one. @Tim; See what you mean about the light - it does suggest some kind of cold-pool. As I mentioned I've started re-reading Banks's works already. I have to say I was devastated when I heard the news. However, he seems to have taken a very positive stance, and actually has a new novel 'The Quarry' in the offing. For his own personal announcement, see: http://www.iain-banks.net/2013/04/03/a-personal-statement-from-iain-banks/ |
Tim Emit | May 30, 2013, 12:50:43 PM This is great Mark, definitely conjures up the feel and scale of the GSV's interior and nice to pay homage to IB, Having worked my way through all his published works since I was a kid his sci-fi pieces have inspired my imagination no end..I plan to go right back through them all when the sad day comes. For some reason the light/fog quality also makes me feel as if I am looking at some radioactive artefact through a heavy water coolant! bath |
