Like it a lot bib! And the sand adds to the depth of the image!

Nice shell smiley
strangely I also get the same sandy effect when rendering similar fractals in ultra fractal.

Maybe something to do with the distance estimation or normal calculation not working well on discontinuities.

I love it.  Personally, I like the sand effect noise.  I've created a number of Bulbox/_Rotate images that came out looking like rather natural environs, because they were loaded with it.  I do put the raystep multiplier down to .2 or .1 in most cases, and it resolves wonderfully.

Looks great, but i thought the noise would vanish too...

image edited: recalculated with a much lower raystep multiplier to remove too obvious artifact, but the sand effect remained, which is exactly what I wanted. Thanks Jesse!

also thought you gave the new feature an audience (visuence?), though with a very low raystep multiplier it should vanish.
but i like it as it is  smiley

Ya see that 's why art is soo subjective to who is viewing it.  I saw the "noise" as a sandy texure used for contrast!   cheesy

Yes, can not get rid of this noise. I gues it is due to some small artifacts that are amplified by hard shadows. But I also think it gives the image some character.
