If you make an old posting sticky (especially if it is not more informative than many others here) you should be able to cope with people reading and commenting in it, even if they don't have the same opinion.
I absolutely disagree that gathering knowledge in one place and making it easier for everyone to access is so much less "worth" than finding out small details in a very specialized area of knowledge. It's just different.
What do schools and universities do? what do libraries do?
This is somehow what the internet is about. The interconnectedness of knowledge.

I spend a lot of time gathering information about fractal philosophy and fractals in nature. And yes, I gather, from sources, from smart thinkers and from great photographers.
And I'm not a great photographer or film maker.
So why should I go out and do all this work again, if the best have already accomplished it?
Would you ask everyone who wants to use a car to invent the wheel by themselvse, the motor, steel and so on? Just because it 'deserves more respect'?
