2D Art Competition

The 2D Art competition is the classic fractal art sections, the classic Mandelbrot set is a mapping of
the 2Dimensional Complex plane, most of us know those kind of fractals, so dive deep in
to the elephant valley pick a nice spot and gradient to create an amazing image:

The most up-to-date tutorials for Ultra Fractal 5 are on Ron Barnett's site here:

For Ron's formulas: http://www.hiddendimension.com/Tutorials_Main.html
For the new UF5 features: http://www.hiddendimension.com/challenges/UF5Challenges.html

For those who want to have a go at 3D IFS fractals in Ultra Fractal then there's some help for my 3D IFS formula in mmf4.ufm here:

There's also the older UF list challenges and other resources here:

In addition there are resources and links to resources in the various fractal groups on the deviantArt site:

I just looked at the postings under the "2D Art" and "3D Art" sections, where there are three images from "Dinkydau" in each section.

The images are really around 250px × 187px in size, but they are being expanded in the posting to much larger, which makes them blurry and pixelated.  Any reasoning behind this ??

I can understand shrinking larger images down to a standard dimension for viewing purposes, but enlarging smaller ones should not be happening.

i have corrected that, it was meant to display the images as thumbnails, but somehow the gallery behaved wrong...

police @dinkiday, you can delete your images and re-upload them to get them featured in high quality in the board

Thank you for saying so.  Glad to see you are still active in this Forum.    smiley

I had been extremely busy over the past 15 months, and had little time for the various fractal communities around the Internet.  (It takes a lot of time and effort to make $85K in that amount of time.)

Anyway, I am back for the moment.

Forgive me if this has been answered.  Does a fractal have to be made with UF?  What happens to the copyrights and ownership of that fractal?  Does it remain with the creator of the uploaded image(s)?  Or are they surrendered to someone else?

Hope Trifox doesn't mind me replying ...

No you don't need to use UF, you can use any fractal software, or presumably create a "real world" fractal and submit a photo of it (I mean a fractal object you've created not a picture of lungs or fractal brocolli etc.)
Apologies if my suggestions for reference materials/tutorials etc. was a little UF biased but I honestly don't know where to find the same sort of resources for say Fractal Explorer.
Note that the group sites on deviantArt do include stuff relating to other software - at least Apophysis, Xenodream and Incendia anyway.

Copyright always remains with the original artist.

Does a fractal have to be made with UF?

Depends on who is doing the judging, and whether you wish to win.  (Statement based on other fractal competitions, not necessarily ones held here).    evil

You will have the same copyrights and ownership anybody in the world currently has when an image is made available to the public.     cheesy

My oh my.  UF users are that into their program eh?  Eek.  Maybe I can win some hearts over with my charming style of writing?  No?

You mean people will try to steal from me?  On the big ol' InterNet? tongue stuck out  Stealing from my web catalog is futile.  All the fractals are embedded with the word "SAMPLE" right through the middle.  Sometimes it is hard to see.  But it is there.  When it is hard to see the security word the color and vibrancy of that fractal has been dimmed.  So even a cropped section won't be of much use.

Or do you mean the fractals shown here enter into public domain whereby all artists forfeit their copyright ownership of each image?  This is the part that concerns me most.  After the way Facebook behaved earlier this year I felt very at ease that I do not upload my fractals to other people's servers (except to my Cafe Press account).

the wild competition is for "UltrafractalWIki and Fratalforums.com" artwork, so if you have a picture of
your cat, and put a fractalforums.com logo on it it can compete cheesy

it certainly does not need to have fractal content ! especially no digital fractal art content!

I just posted an entry, but I put it in the Compo Gallery!
Do I need to move it to 2D or 3D Art?  The piece was
done in Incendia...
