Nice cheesy

I've long been a sucker for using images in my coloring of fractals, what software made that?  I've not been able to get quite that effect before and am curious how you achieved it.

Oh, and Welcome to the forum!  I see that's your first post  afro

Sockratease, thanks for the kind welcome.

I made the Julia set with Fortran software I wrote myself (not at all user-friendly; for each run I modify the source code and recompile!) I employed two coloring formulas: escape time and minimum distance from a circle of radius 1/2, the latter enabling my pun by producing rings. However, the formulas don't set pixel color directly. Instead, they determine row # and column #, respectively. Pixel color is actually plucked from an input image.

I assembled the input image in GIMP. One layer is a page full of "HAPPY NEW YEAR!" clipped from Notepad. The other layer is a "plasma cloud" rendered in GIMP. Here's a sample plasma cloud:

I look forward to posting a lot more fractals!

Ken

You seem to be an artistic guy! Combining techniques gives more inspiration. Looking forward to new fractals from you.

Wish you all a happy new year, even without fractals smiley
