Ok, try to get back to constructive criticism. In order to get familiar with v2, I need to continue my work of v 1.x. This still doesn't work properly. The attached params are an example. The main rotation won't be interpreted or at least not correctly, this changes at times. My system is win 7 pro and Mandelbulber v2.04 (May 2015)

Interesting, when I try importing a really old setting from V1.12,  I can get a similar (not identical) image to the original, once I do two things

1) tick enable main rotation. (minor issue)

2) main rotation alpha angle imported as 180 degrees whereas actual angle in .fract file was 2 degrees. (bigger bug.) Beta and gamma imported OK.

I will try and understand the maths and look into this further.

edit
Imported a V1.899999999,

1) enabled was already ticked this time.

2) Mbox main rotation alpha angle imports as 0 degrees whereas actual angle was 12 degrees.

But even after correcting to 12 degrees, the resulting image remains quite different.

I think only Buddhi will know the history of the various changes. And with Buddhi and Zebastian being the only programmers currently working on the project, we may have to wait a while before they have time to look into this. Releasing v2.05 is probably a higher priority for them right now.

Cheers

It turns out, that not correctly importing alpha angle was my own problem, however I remember having issues to like what Taurus describes.

Guess you transposed digits. It's 1.21

whereas actual angle in .fract file was 2 degrees.

Nope -7. Difficulties reading fract files?

Any of the authors have an idea, what's going on?

I was trying to import a really old  V1.12 .fract file.  (accepting the fact that the colour would be wrong.)  Then I tried a V1.89999999999999 and had same problems.

I have only tried to import way back with V2.00 (where their was a another bug) and gave up, and then yesterday with unreleased V2.05. But with V2.00 from  memory I only had problems with rotbox imports, are all your problems only with rotbox imports?

The alpha angle thing is a bug introduced in  V2.04, that will be corrected in V2.05.  Once the alpha angle bug has been corrected I will re-test my .fract files on V2.05, because I am not convinced that there is only one bug. And more importantly,  Buddhi has said he would look into it  sometime.

Your post prompted me to try importing again,  and now at the very least the alpha angle bug  will not be carried into  V2.05, so thank you.

except the detail level, which I assume you didn't adapt after scaling, it looks pretty much like the original params. Thanks a lot.
Maybe that's a good idea for future versions. Adapting detail level automatically when scaling image size params. M3d does adapt DE stop automatically as well. Turns out pretty handy, when switching between preview and final size.

Buddhi has located and fixed two more bugs related to importing old settings..

Now my V1,89999999 rotbox test image renders correctly. smiley

And just to be sure, I have just downloaded your .fract and rendered with latest dev version. Attached is image for comparison. Check the streaks of colour on the fractals side  against your original image, and if the same, please add (solved) to the post title.

Check the streaks of colour on the fractals side  against your original image

my params were made (in 1.21) for opencl rendering, so I have no clue, which stripes are the right ones  wink

Didn't investigate further, but I think this bug is back with v 2.08-1. Rotations are ignored, when importing v1.x  sad

Hi taurus,
that was probably me when i modified THe importer to be compatible with msvc. Can you give me an example file which reproduces this Problem?
