END OF AN ERA, FRACTALFORUMS.COM IS CONTINUED ON FRACTALFORUMS.ORG

Hey, guys, thought I'd join the forum after browsing it for a little while. I was interested in fractals a few years ago, but then I moved on to other things. Little did I know that I was missing out on an entire universe. Just about a month ago I stumbled across a webpage about the Mandelbrot Set, and I was interested. My computer isn't that fast (getting a better one at the end of the summer though) so I tried to find the fastest program to browse the Mandelbrot Set. I downloaded a software called QuickMAN and it was pretty impressive. It gave me a real-time browser of the set rather than one of those slow web applets. I was exploring for a little while, and at several billion zooms it started to break up into pixels. It had reached the limit of 32-bit floating point integers. Since it's always nice to be able to zoom deeper, I got Fractal Extreme. It was great that it could calculate beyond the threshold of 32-bit integers. I don't know exactly how they do it, but i think it splits up the long decimals into shorter equations. Anyway, I started to look into 3d fractals, and quickly found that it was a world worth exploring. My first 3d fractal program was Mandelbulber, and I spent a day or two just rendering and saving pictures of the examples because they all looked really nice. I thought that 3d fractals took an eternity to calculate, but I was wrong after I downloaded Mandelbulb 3d. The 3d navigator took some getting used to, but it really showed the beauty of these fractals in (close to) realtime. It was then that I discovered this forum, and after reading tons of topics and looking at hundreds of pictures that I decided to join. I just wish I was around here while Tglad and a few others discovered the Mandelbox. It is hands-down the most impressive and intricate 3d fractal I have ever laid eyes on.
