Hello there, I'm Mator!

That's pronounced Mah-tore, it rhymes with core.  I've been interested in fractal geometry, specifically mandelboxes for several years now.  I'm currently attending college to get a Bachelors Degree in Software Engineering.  I'm interested in automation, database management, 3d environments, and user interface design.

I had been wanting to start a project to generate fractals in Minecraft - a voxel based game - for awhile, and just started a few days ago.  I already have code to generate Menger Sponges of any size, and to generate one type of Mandelbulb with various preset palettes at any size.  I'm joining the forums to discuss fractals, mathematics, and code efficiency with other users.  I've been into mathematics for awhile, and once tried to take a topology course.  I'm also a former Physics major, so I have a pretty good foundation (going up into vector calculus & partial differential equations).

I'm looking forward to seeing, learning about, and experiencing fractals here on the forums! smiley

greetings Mator,

my son and his friends are Minecraft mad.  Fractals in Minecraft is a cool idea, well done. I too am impressed with what it has  developed into.

Hi mclarekin,

Many people are "Minecraft mad".  It's a pretty cool game.  I've been playing for a long time now, but only occasionally.

I've done some more research into fractals and Minecraft and have found that there do exist a few methods for getting Fractals in minecraft.  Exporting the fractal from Mandelbulber and then doing certain things and importing it into the game via MCEdit is one such method that I found here on the Fractal Forums.

I also found out about an MCEdit script which generates Mandelbulbs from scratch.  This has been a starting point for some of my code.  I've been learning a lot about Mandelbulb generation by outputting data and toying around with parameters.  I feel very confident in my ability to discuss Mandelbulb generation with other people now.

I'm looking forward to learning more about fractals and participating on this forum.  I may need to get a more powerful computer, but I certainly enjoy what I have been able to generate so far.

Feel free to check out my Minecraft Fractal generation thread here.

Mator,

Just remember that the Minecraft environment can be pretty hard on Mengers, with the occasional showers and those damn sprinkler systems.  Below left is a fresh modified Menger straight out of it's wrapper, and on the right is a mouldy soft one that had been left out in the rain for week,  grin

Checked out your thread, cool indeed.

Cheers

ooo... poor sponge sad

Speaking of the harshness of the Minecraft Environment...
A mandelbulb I generate out of wool caught on fire once.  I had to go all crazy firefighter on it to get it out!  D:
