I'm during testing of new feature in Mandelbulber. I added possibility to set position, color and intensity of 4 additional light sources.

First test: added some back-lights in back and bottom of Mandelbulb.

Second test: visible light sources

On this image most of lights was randomly distributed but on the foreground was set "by hand".

The mandelbulb image makes me drool Buddhi!

I have to give your renderer a try someday, didn't get it to work on my VMware Fusion-PC last time I tried, will have another go now, this is awesome!

Great work Buddhi!

I cannot provide an authoritative source, but it has been known for some time that lighting is the primary clue for the human visual system. That's the underlying reason why rendering algorithms keep evolving towards more and more accurate simulations of light: even very subtle lighting effects are reliably detected by human viewers, and have a strong impact on their mental model of what they are seeing.

So yes, things do look more real when lighted well. Hollywood has made many a livings from that. smiley

Very Nice indeed !!!   I have always liked the ability to back-light objects.  It seems to add something special to the image.

Hi Buddhi,
Just to say thanks for releasing the new (0.50) version of what is now my
favourite fractal program! cheesy
Noticed however, that it froze when I tried to use any custom settings I'd
saved from v.0.43 - take it this is to do with the new lighting setup
being incompatible with the old version?
Also seems a wee bit slower as well, but I can live with that.
Is that your KITCHEN as a reflection map?!  wink
Cheers.

Great images, Buddhi cheesy
The last one is amazing!

My younger sister just told me, it looks like screws.
When I asked her again, she said:
Ah, I meant gearwheels.
