I have some maps I want to use in mandlebulb 3D but I have no idea how. Can anyone here help me please?

1. In the background?
2. To add texture to generic fractals?
3. As a light?
4. Projected in the sphere inversion of a Mandelbox?

Those are some of the possible uses cheesy

Images for maps must be added to the Map folder in MB3D using a consecutive number sequence starting from the last Map number in the folder to work.

If you have them in the correct way...

1. Simply go to LIGHTING -> BACK PIC, rest is straightforward, try various different modes 'til you are satisfied evil . The best is sphere map if you use reflects, else disable! cheesy

2. Simply go to LIGHTING -> OBJECT, check "USE A MAP..." then explore the available choices - depends on your likings? wink

4. Clear the formulas then use ABoxMapSFold, into formulas tab maps are choosen using the number and there is no preview too bad. From the formula info (click on i button to show if available);

Code:
On higher Map scale values you might have to decrease the 'Raystep multiplier' to not overstep.
If you still get much noise in combination with other formulas, try to uncheck 'Normals on DE'.

Because the map function is very slow,
use this formula only on one or a few iterations and do the rest with the normal ABox formula.

The maps output range is 0 to 1 (black to white).

The map must be in the 'Lightmap folder' specified by the 'Ini Dirs' button,
named only by the map number and stored as png or jpeg image.
