Hi folks,

Ok, so this is probably a complete novice's question and I apologise to the maths wizards for my ignorance.

but...

I zoom, zoom, zoom, getting in ever closer and then, eventually, I hit a wall. The resolution goes grainy and I can get in no further.

I guess it's different for each set of formulas/hybrids, but what factors prevent further zooming?

Is there something I can tweak to continue my journey (or before I set off) or, once I get here am I blocked forever?

Thanks in advance for any hints

regards

There is a limit when your 'puter runs out of decimals...  sad
Don't know if it this wall you hit, but I guess so...

Oh,..,.,
well if this is the reason,
maybe I should pop down my local PC shop and see if I can buy some extra decimals, then. cheesy

A second reason can be that you have to increase the 'Max. iterations' value in the formula tab, some formulas needs more iterations to bail out than others.

Hi, thanks for the info, Jesse.

I will keep it in mind for the future but, unfortunately, it does not seem to improve matters in this particular situation.

As you mentioned bail-out, I also fiddled with this, but with no desired effect.

I'm also wondering whether it matters which items you choose to zoom into before you run out of zoom - like, are all items visible at the same time of a similar 'depth' (if that makes sense?)

If zoom is somewhere at ~1e11 to 1e13 than you reached the end of double precision, depends a little on the specific formula.

Can't do anything against it, just zoom out  confused

If zoom isnt that far, increasing the max iterations would be the option.. you can check the average iteration count in the info tab, so you can see if this might be the reason.

Bailout might be good or bad for the formula, normally you don't have to change it.  It affects not really how far you can zoom.

cheers
