Good morning from Germany

I need help!!!

I'm a photographer and don't know much from mathematics but I love mandelbulbs to create a room for my surrealistic pictures. Last week I did this one and saved it as m3i. Today I opened it to go on and now there is a problem - the picture is not what te parameters build. Or let's say - if I try to rotate the mandelbulb there comes something different - I don' know what is wrong and what to do - to get the image back and work with it.
Even I don't know - what was my mistake or what can I do - that something will not happen again.

Sorry - but the 3mi is to big so this is the m3p file and the jpg saved alone.

I hope someone can tell me and give me a chance to get something near the old image back.

Greetings from Bottrop

Paul

Very hard to tell without the params. However, if I am not mistaken, MB3D saves the formulas that you have in the "Formulas" windows at the moment of requesting the save, even if you did not computed its result. This is you didn't hit the button "Calculate 3D". So you have an image but the formulas for a different fractal.  You can even have a third one in the Navi window which sometimes is very useful for correcting mistakes. And finally, if you realize your mistake before closing the program, the undo button can put you many steps back.

If I render your parameters, it comes up blank, but reducing the fog depth shows a pretty neat picture. It's not the same as your jpg, but looks close, only with more detail, see attached file and parameter file. Does that help?

Edit: Rereading your post, I'm not sure if your issue is with the fog or with rotating the box. If it is the latter, maybe you should try using the Navigator, which is more intuitive then the buttons in the startscreen. Welcome to the forums BTW!

Max iterations at 13 and a low Stepwidth multiplier to render the thin structures properly.

Thank You Jesse - thats it and I can go on. smiley smiley smiley

Does it alway work - that Max iterations to 13 and small (o.o1) Raystep multiplier makes less details?

Less iterations means less details, that is true.  The default operating mode of m3d is to set the max(imum) iterations to a high value and let m3d do iterate as long as needed until the the vector length becomes bigger than the bailout value.
Then you can influence the amount of details by the DEstop value, that determines at what distance to the mandel(or other objects-) set the raymarching stops.
Try to set max iteration to 60 or higher and DEstop to 20 or so (it is relative to one pixel) and see the difference.  You get less details too by a high DEstop value, but in a different way.

The Raystep multiplier affects the raymarching and is not changing the object itself, but in some cases you have to set it to a lower value than default to avoid overstepping, that means that you miss the object and you got holes or structures are missing.
