i think he means where to find the amazing surf formula in mb3d, to my knowledge it is 3Da -> Amazing Surf formula which has to be used for it

how to use this feature choose what PARAMETERS
Please don't just edit your post if you want to reply. Otherwise i can't see your answer in the recent posts. Best start with the Amazing Surf: Activate Julia and set 0,0,0 coordinates Set Amazing Surf rotations to 0,0,0 and from Cylinder (value 1) to Sphere (value 0) Now try only Julia Z for example (see what happens). Then try some single rotates. Check how rotations and Julia interact ... some slight rotations let a structure disappear but some slight changes of Julia bring them back again ... but in a different look. Even the interplay of fold and scale is most interesting. But i'm also just fumbling around ... be prepared to spend hours. Hope it helps for your start.

Has anyone rendered interesting pictures of the Surf (no Hybrid) in Mandelbrot mode?

is this interresting enough? In fact I use a completely different strategy as lxh for example. I allways start out with an mset, 'cause I follow the slight changes in mset. First I fiddle around with Scale, Fold and rotation. Then I start to examine the different areas of the mset. When I see an interresting structure, I pick julia constants from the most interresting point and see what happens. When I already zoomed deep enough, that the changes of mset are minimal (or the julia set is almost like the mset), I just stay there... see above.

This seems a very interesting strategy. I will give it a try, Torsten. But the surf renders so damn fast at low zoom levels that it's nearly too smart.

I think theese two methods are barely comparable, both with pros and cons. Just tried to convert your (hybrid) parameter to an mset (julia constant as camera mids) nothing interresting to see... On the other hand the one below should be hard to find without the mset, as it originates on an isle of order in a messy ocean of chaos (there are at least four in most mset configurations) beside the center. hard to hit just by flipping sliders... I'll surely try some more julia work in future, especially as my mset method is more of a relict of my work with the mandelbox and mandelbulber.

Torsten, any tip on how to move from the Julia to the M-set? Let me explain: say I found a nice shape in Julia mode, and now I want to look at the corresponding M-set area to get some variety around. When I go back to Mset mode, I get just strange noise. I put the Julia coordinate in Xmid Ymid Zmid and try to look around and zoom, but I see nothing like my Julia... Any clue?
Here are the params if anyone wants to try

I tried some params with julia coords as camera mids as well with no success. I'd try to use julia coords as cutting planes. at the intersection point there should be the mset variations, as long as julia coordinates are not too far outside the mset. I have some mandelbox julias, that have no equivalent in the mset, "sea invader" is one. I'll take a look, when I'm back from work.

just tried. this is the spot (i measured). as expected with zero rotations it is a flat disc. I think your parameter has no equivalent here. I don't even understand, why the julia set is 3d. Sorry! Maybe Kali can explain.
