Kind of a linear combination of two orthogonal mandelbrots, needs SSE2 (only on very old computers not available).

Big thanks go out to both Kali for bringing the formula where we could enjoy and to Jesse for a quick turnaround on parameters that allow us to explore on our own. Very cool and beautiful. I've started an animation exploring the outside of a hybrid I did. It looks like spun glass, to me. Here's frame 100. Thanks, again, to both of you. Good stuff! Phil

You´re welcome, I'm glad you like it! I want to see that animation, the image looks good. Thanks for your comments,
Kali

Howdy! The anim finished last night, and is a little noisy for my taste. I know there are settings I need to mess with, so... Any any rate, here's Kali's formula, a power of 9, with a Quaternion. Because of the noise and everything on zoom ins looking more like abstract art, I decided to just show the exterior, which, to me, was just wispy and beautiful. The music is "Ragnarǫk / The End of the Gods" - Sequentia from the album "Edda - Myths from Medieval Iceland" and seemed to fit fairly well. Again, thanks to both Kali and Jesse for giving us a new way to express the beauty of fractals. Phil

I would love to watch this video, but I've got a Youtube message about Sony copyright on the music in France, so I can't view the video. Would you mind potentially posting a version with a different soundtrack, or no sound? Thanks

Looks really nice, Phil! Did you try adjusting DE stop, max iterations and raystep multiplier to reduce the noise? Also try unchecking "Normals on DE" if it's not. I would love to see some interior scene, it seems like it has a few interesting structures...

@Bib -- d'oh! Uploading a silent version, now, as it would be the quickest way to get it up there. Makes me grumpy, though -- have a whole side-rant on inconsistent copyright laws. Our "global village" has consistency problems. Sorry about that.
@Kali -- thanks! It looks like there were multiple things going on. Since I was trying to do sort of a "quick and dirty" rendering, I didn't really change over some of the settings from when I was experimenting. Some of that noise is a result of the YW multiplier on the Quaternion, which doesn't like being positive. I'm messing with the individual settings, once at a time, to see what difference it makes in the overall rendering.
Since YouTube is taking its sweet time, I'll put the link up when it finishes. Out of curiosity -- are there other videos on my channel that aren't viewable in certain locales? If so, I'd like to remedy that.

@kon yes, some videos use sony copyrighted material that is not viewable at least in germany, so with the video you posted in this thread, can not be viewed by people outside usa ...

Okeydoke -- Here's the quiet version that won't irk Sony.
http://www.youtube.com/v/kHmes6-FzJQ&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1I've started messing with cutting and such -- there are some interesting structures in there that I want to see more closely.

I'm going to render a movie with this. At least I will try...it will be my first.

Very cool! Best of luck with that -- I would like to see deeper in there; reminds me of the cover of "The Difference Engine." I'm working on more of a flyover of the spun glass model. Could be a while...

Here is a less noisy version of the formula with better distance estimates, takes just a little bit longer to render.

It really works better, Jesse... thanks a lot for your dedication. I know the Mandelbulb/Mandelbox etc. makes amazing images, much better than this simple formula does, but I like it because I figured out by myself, with my basic mathematical knowledge, and I think it's not very far away of being a 3D version of the Mandelbrot set. Also I have named it... "Mandelorth" I'll tell you if I got some another idea for a formula. I'm improving the VB program I wrote for testing my 3D formulas, just to see better the results, adding some persepective, etc. I'll show you if I get something interesting... So thanks again Jesse for your time and the interest you showed My real name is Pablo and I'm from Argentina. Nice to meet you... Bye!
