I used the same approach as Rob Bunney in a UPR posted on the UF mailing list and along with some generous support from Janet Parke, Rob, and Rick Spix managed to come up with this one.

Thanks for the kind words Trifox.

The white circles are done with straightforward masking. There were other ones that aren't visible that were removed for compositional reasons with a 'mask the mask' technique.

I thought this image might be useful as an example of masking techniques.  If you want to start a wiki, an examples, or tutorials thread I'll write up a little how-to for it and perhaps build on it as questions or other contributions arise.

I think, it´s 2 years ago now, I could admire one of
these great results from this very imposing flower (Titanenwurz in german) at * Palmengarten * , the Botanical Garden in Frankfurt / Main. It was fascinating :-)

Changing from WinXP to WinVista at the moment & a new PC, I lost all my UF `s ( an individual
* error *  sad ) but & and , as I think, I will have a new start here again - with Layers too  smiley
