2007 that was a long way, next year is not only 5 years of mandelbulb, as well we have a 5 year annual compo anniversary!
so, next year will jubilees en masse!
too bad the images referenced by lyc in the thread do not exist anymore ... sad

Maybe I should make it clear why I am talking about "2 years with the bulb".
Daniel posted his formulas 2007-11-17 but the first renders of the now classic mandelbulb came in november(?) 2009.
And... I agree sad with lyc:s images, I remember them... even chcked way back machine but the links are broken. sad

Thanks..as to a Mac Pro, I say f*ck yes if you're using software that uses multi-threading - see:
...
Also with the next generation of Pro (if you're prepared to wait) I'd guess the base model with say only 4 cores will be as fast as this 6 core wink
Of course by then 8-core may be a choice (or even dual 8-core) smiley

OK I think it is the machine I want smiley I will wait until the new lineup comes though...

Edit: For all those thinking "yeh, but Mac's are always too expensive" - when I priced (and bought) this MacPro an equivalent Windows system from Dell was around £500 dearer.

I second that, I work on a magazine and the layout has always been on Mac, talk of switching to PC has always been there from the IT manager because of the "expensive" macs, but now a 27 inch Imac is the most inexpensive workstation you can get in that segment, so I am still happy!  afro

I should still have those images lying around... somewhere! I've made some effort a few years ago to put them back online, but couldn't find them all at that time. I'll have a look around again smiley

This is a great initiative, I'm really proud of FractalForums' history regarding the glorious bulb!

happy birthday dear bulb:

*alltogether*

Happy Birthday to You
Happy Birthday to You
Happy Birthday Dear Bulb
Happy Birthday to You.

From good friends and true,
From old friends and new,
May deep iterations go with you,
And many floating points too!

How old are you? (really!)

Here's one of my earliest Mandelbox renders:

It's Mandelbox Man!

I grew up watching things like Ultraman, and this reminds me of some of those Crazy Japanese Robots I kept seeing in those marvelous shows.

I hadn't figured out how to zoom properly for an animation yet, so here's the badly constructed and very rough gif file made at the time to show where he was hiding...

My first bulb render (UF, Dave Makin's formula), 14-11-2009. Still my Youtube avatar smiley

http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=1054

And the video on 15-11-2009

My first box render (UF, Dave's magic again), 04-02-2010, it was still called "cubebulb" at that time!

http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=1425

And my first box video on 14-02-2010, now called Mandelbox

WOW I love the response!
I hope Twinbee and Bugman checks this out soon smiley

I just found two of my very first tries:

From this thread: http://www.fractalforums.com/mandelbulb-renderings/degree-and960-mandelbulb/

But now I found the very first render I did, I remember the feeling of joy! smiley

(All of these was rendered using Subblues pixelbender script wich I used for a long time before the mandelbulb 3D addiction took over completely...  afro

I will look around to se if I can find Tom:s original thread, but someone might know it already?
Also worth a special day...

I FOUND IT!
2012-02-01 Is the next day to celebrate! smiley

I also remember my first mandelbulb render.
11-21-2009:

Even with shadows and reflection it didn't look good.
11-24-2009:

Adding orbit trap and gradient magnitude colouring and self emission glow made it look better. afro
