Whilst creating a new web page entitled Mystery of the REAL, 3D Mandelbrot Set, I compiled a collection of the best 3D fractals after filtering through literally tens of thousands. I take no credit for the pictures themselves, some of which are created from members of this forum too.

Hope you all enjoy! If anyone here a recommendation, please let me know, and I may add it (though I'm also going to be very picky tongue stuck out).

i've just kicked off a new 3d mandelbrot render, it's going to take a day or two before it's done but it should be worth the wait afro

that'll be my first entry in the new fractalforums self-programmed-renderer competition, since trifox complained about me not showing my cards early on tongue stuck out

believe me, if i could avoid rendering it for so long i would Sceptical unfortunately it's not cheap to do completely unbiased high resolution rendering of a crisp 3d fractal. if you're thinking about changing the submission rules, perhaps more fair than limiting the render time would be to require a working program that renders it... however, if the rules are too stressful, few people will enter...

anyway, my other entries should be much much faster to render.

well, it's a fair concern considering i'm going to be rendering it with ~20ghz over much of the weekend...

but i'm glad there is no discrimination against high powered rendering  evil

Well, if you're ready to spend around $20 to 40 thousand bucks, then you could always get something like this: wink

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/yyZtBYG0QOg&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/yyZtBYG0QOg&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

(Or you could rent for a day heh). I'm actually quite impressed how much 3D printing has advanced over the past few years. Last time I remember, I saw monochrome blob like structures taking days to build, rather than 450^3 cubes per inch cube colour models taking hours.

Thanks both for the comments - *really* can't wait to see the new render/s! cheesy

Thanks! I took a peek at your own site too. I'll give my faves (roughly with best at top):

http://www.graphicandfractalworld.com/Fr5/FeSt8.html

Really love the coloring, overall shape, and jellyfish-like translucency in this - I think it may be your best one! Do you have a higher res?

These 3 also come very close:

These aren't as good as the above, but still really nice:

Thanks!

Yeah, I think I've seen some of his work before. Not bad, though they're a little too much like 'shapes' - more fractalness would be nice smiley

Btw, I couldn't resist having a glance at your gallery. So far I love this and especially Inner World, oh and also some pics from your "feelings" series (25, 23, 4, 3, 11). Pic 23 is like a really weird cool landscape.

Honestly, all this minimalist "postmodern art" you see everywhere in restaurants etc., made of squiggly lines, or super-basic gradients has NOTHING on stuff like yours, GFWorld and others here.
