Hello! My first post here!

Is there software available, where you can just put in a formula for the color of a voxel and see the resulting object?

I imagine a software that just greets you with a simple text area and a button "go". Now lets say you put in this into the textarea:

function color(x,y,z)
{
 if (x*x+y*y+z*z>1) return 0;
 else                           return  250;
}

And hit "go" - it will render a sphere. And then you can try all kinds of formulas and come up with spheres, mandelbulbs and whatever.

Is there something like this?

Welcome.
There is Gestaltlupe by trafassel and evaldraw by Ken Silverman.

Thank you for the info.

I tried Gestaltlupe now. Somehow the renderings look broken on my machine.

I read the Evaldraw tutorial and it seems like it would need a lot of work to create 3d fractals in it.

At the moment, I think compiling Mandelbulber with my own formulas might be the best way. I managed to compile Mandelbulber from source and it renders really nice images. I just need to know where to put my own formula.

I modified the CUDA SDK sample voxel renderer to do variations of the Mandelbulb formula.

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=153257

The disadvantage is that one needs development tools and the CUDA SDK and an nVidia
graphics card.

Rotation works at interactive frame rates, whereas recomputaton of the volume data may
take significant fractions of a second.

Hi Cbuchner1,

It might just be me, but I cannot find the link to the source code anywhere in the post you refer to?
