Astounding ! Am looking into these - to at least find someone with one who'll take on 3rd party projects.

you mean 3rd party, as in getting hold of a 3d printer grin? here is another video with 3 different types of 3d printer in one building.

one of my faves has to be the paper printing process, because came across a website that had 2 meter tall pillars of some kind of intricate gothic patterns made generatively and printed by a maths tutor at his university using a printer and paper and glueing them together. i posted it somewhere... Hey look here are the pillars: http://vi.sualize.us/tag/column/

technically you could make a robot to do it using an ordinary laser/air blowing thing and some A3 papers, if you had that much time!

there is also a lego technic 3d printer video on google.

surely you could modify an ordinary printer to cut paper instead of printing it, like put a cellulose corrosive chemical in the nozzle instead of ink... paper is so cool cos it's like wood, like you have a 3d wood printer:)

i expect there are a bunch of doods somewhere on the internet figuring out ways to mod normal printers so they make cuts of paper, then just feed in a design, print 1 meter pile of paper and glue them together.

ok here is one guy making a DIY printer using plaster, rather too technical!

also some diy 3d printers on youtube

i.materialise does 3rd party printing and they have a plugin for google sketchup. There's also rep-rap which is an open source 3d printer which you can build yourself for about $300.

I am very impressed with this design though, the resin/powder idea is exellent.

and just had to put in this amazing 3d print of a skull!
