i recently re-worked my favourite flame fractal, oneiric, using the original high dynamic range image (in floating point format) to have greater contrast and white balance.

since i can't practically show the full resolution (10800x7200) image, i've cropped a particularly nice section of it and posted it here: http://lyc.deviantart.com/art/oneiric-print-crop-66261870. i think the details in that image are some of the finest i've ever produced, and serve to constantly remind me how special 2d fractals can be smiley

the full image, resampled to 1920x1200, can be seen here: http://lyc.deviantart.com/art/oneiric-38581245

I'm actually drooling.

That's mind candy of the highest order, man.

...Wallpaper.

Beautiful image.
This reminds me of my own iterative procedure which does not use any conditional.
It has the same sort of rays from a point type of detail:

Yours is obviously much more beautiful. Just thought I would share this approach here.
The little formula is printed on the image where the '@' symbol means superposition.
It is less fractal but still pretty dynamic. This algorithm does not test every point in space so it is very fast. It merely traces the iterates of one growing magnitude. Here is a high density five dimensional version:

hi tim, good that you share those.
We already where interested in them.
They kinda look like Mandelbrot-set (the 2nd image even looks 3D-ish) and the spacelotus or tribar of order 6 (If I'm not mistaken right now)

so, a nice "solid" representation might uncover very interesting results wink

Also nice remake lyc though I'm not sure how it compares to the previous version smiley
