Mandelbulber 1.01 - for Linux x86, Linux x64 and Win32 (will be also for MacOS)

Open source program (GNU GPL) for rendering photo-realistic 3D fractals

Free download: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mandelbulber/

Website: http://sites.google.com/site/mandelbulber/

User manual: http://sites.google.com/site/mandelbulber/user-manual
Tutorial for creating animations: http://sites.google.com/site/mandelbulber/getting-started

New features in version 1.01:

- added Smooth Mandelbox formula
- added function which scans for optimal DE factor
- possible to stop program during rendering visible lights
- shadows for auxiliary lights can be disabled
- rendering time is displayed as a real time instead of a cpu time
- command line: possible to set image resolution ("-res WIDTHxHEIGHT") and frames per key value ("-fpk N") - many thanks to Jeff Epler
- command line: possible to override value ("-o key=value") of any parameter (names from settings files)  (example: mandelbulber -o glow_intensity=3.5 -o power=2.5 -res 800x600 fractal.fract)
- fixed bug: there was high CPU load during moving of main render window
- fixed bug: memory access violation in fractal.cpp (hybrid formula sequence)

Sweet! Playing around with the Smooth Mandelbox now; I noticed that the Smooth Mandelbox' sharpness field is disabled for hybrid fractals (callbacks.cpp:842).

The value override parameter is a welcome addition too.

Hi,

the new feature for optimal DE factor is really great.   I have re-rendered some older pics of mine which I had trouble with and they came out perfect.  Thanks!   A Beer Cup A Beer Cup A Beer Cup

thanks buddhi for annother bunch of improovements.  A Beer Cup

the smooth mandelbox looks interesting in overview, but i had some difficulties zooming in. either the render was terribly coarse or (after usung de step optimization) the de step factor was insanely low, so a sipmple preview render took 20 minutes to finish. needs some further investigation...

i tried the de step factor optimization on a few of my older parameters and i can't even guess how many hours i wasted, rendering nothing... great benefit this!

but after viewing buddhis recent experiments with volumetric lights, i can't wait trying this feature in the regular version. (if you need a beta tester i'll be there too) grin

mandelbulber is still the first adress for highest quality 3d fractal renders - well done buddhi!
