The Nominees Are:

this list is straightforward taken from the top rated image list and the most viewed image list
everyone has 3 votes, the votes can be changed, and the poll is up for the next 30 days

I think the 'top rated' list is wrong... for one thing, if you 'view all' they're in a different (correct) order, and 'High Voltage' is right in front with 8 five stars, and isn't even listed on the 4 top rated even though it gets listed on the 4 most viewed.

So the 4 'top rated' are not the highest rated for the month... there is a bug.

Christian, I also think that there is a bug in the gallery software and that the top rated list is wrong. I have given you counter-examples on several occasions. I think we should find another way, maybe based on the most viewed or a poll...

I agree with the comments on the top listing (and I apologise...). I found the bug -obviously-, but couldn't do anything about it anymore afterwards. I did report it to Christian in a PM though, because I wasn't sure if he would like the bug to be made public.  Personally I think it would be best to tell everyone about it, so you will not inadvertently trigger the bug, but I'll leave that to the moderators and administrator.

I think Tom's assessment is right and should be leading, because it circumvents the bug. It's a lot more work though...

Again my sincerest apologies for f***ing up the system... It wasn't intended

Thinking a little further... Maybe it would be a nice idea to create a subgallery for entries for the calendar. It gives the poster the choice to post it either in the "normal" galleries or to enter it into the monthly calendar contest. All entries can be judged in the month after in a separate voting poll.

What do you think?

I don't understand anything you said Madman...

The top listing? You apologise? why? for also finding the bug? You couldn't do anything about it? Why should you, are you developing the forum code? You weren't sure it should be made public? Why not? its hardly something to keep secret.
"I think it would be best to tell everyone about it"
Haven't we just done that??
"so you will not inadvertently trigger the bug"
How do you trigger this bug? How does telling people prevent the bug?
"I think Tom's assessment is right and should be leading, because it circumvents the bug"
I didn't suggest anything that would circumvent the bug, I just pointed out the existence of it.
"Again my sincerest apologies for f***ing up the system"
So you caused the bug? How? Are you writing the forum code?

"Maybe it would be a nice idea to create a subgallery for entries for the calendar. It gives the poster the choice to post it either in the "normal" galleries or to enter it into the monthly calendar contest"
Most people would post in the calender gallery because, why not. So the normal gallery would become empty and you would have still have to find the top 4 highest rated from the calender gallery.

ok, i adjusted the function in the gallery script ( warning, this has to be done again, after updating the gallery!)

it was on a best "average" set up, meaning that 5x5 star votings are better than
100x5+1x1 any top rated image, with one lover voting, this one takes the total amount of points, and not only the average!

dunno what to do with current poll then sad

You can start a new one with the now "true" top 8 (or top 10, or 12, or whatever, if it allows to include this one wink http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=5099)

By the way, I wonder what could have been the 2010 spring contest results without the bug..... shocked shocked

OK, I guess that generates a fairer competition. It's also proof that it doesn't solve the bug though.

just for the record:

the vote is not adjusted, because days have passed, just remember that the january vote was : "unfair, irregular, imbalanced, and stuff.."

I think it should be great to have a contest also for fractal research. I mean new discoveries, formulas, etc. What do you think?

@Tglad : Let's do another contest about figuring out what @Madman tried to say...  at least it was funny grin
Maybe english is not his natural language? just like me... I'm sure you will find my english a little strange sometimes.
