I have noticed that you can select anti-aliasing in the animation portion of the program but it doesn't seem that you can apply it to just single renders... Am I missing something? Thanks.

Use the "scale" value at the top of the main window for downscaling, and when saved as image
an additional antialiasing filter will be performed...

Ah ha! Thanks! I thought that was simply to zoom out and view larger renders on screen, but after testing it does definitely seem to smooth things out a bit.... thank you again!
