Hi! I've been a graphics enthusiast for a long time, and I'm a web designer/programmer by trade.  I always loved fractals, and used to play with Kai's Power Tools back in the day, and more recently Apophysis.  As soon as I saw my first mandelbulb though, I knew there was no turning back!  This is the future.

While I am loving being able to render this stuff in a reasonable amount of time, I am frustrated that there isn't any GPU support for the best programs.  I tried Mandelbulber first, and while I liked the interface and navigator, I found the rendering to be slow.  I tried out subblue's Adobe Pixelbender Mandelbulb which uses the GPU, and its FAST!  But, its just a mandelbulb explorer, the controls are clunky, and there is no rendering or animation support on the PC.  He's using some sort of macintosh voodoo for his vids...  Although subblue's seems to be limited in zoom detail, he has pulled of some amazing renders in some amazingly short periods of time (like "the lava dome", 4mins30sec video rendered in 1hr 48mins at 720p!!!).  I'm really hoping that his type of tech comes to the masses...  I tried a few other progs, and wasn't impressed.  But, for now, Mandelbulb 3D is 100% my favorite.  It seems a lot faster than Mandelbulber.  I'm hoping they both get some help from the GPU soon! (preferrably for my ATI Radeon HD 5830)  I've done a bunch of image renders, and I'm rendering my first animation as we speak (on another computer).

Oh yeah, and I discovered a whole city the other day (rendered at 2560x2048)

Welcome to the forums, thanks for the introduction, and a very good choice with M3D. It's also my favorite, although I'm not sure it's really faster than Mandelbulber (and now that the latest version of Mandelbulber has got progressive image rendering, that might change the game)

I also find Mandelbulb 3D to be the easiest to work with, but some of what I see coming from Mandelbulber makes me need to learn my way around that program better  (still!).

Nice city.  I'll bet it has a Really Big Name!

I'll have to give Mandelbulber another try to compare render times.  I know that its brand new, and bound to just get better and better!

I did posts some of my images, and more to come!  My first animation is uploading to YouTube right now.  Its not great, but hey, its my first one!

KPT will always have a place in my heart, since it was the second fractal generator I had ever used (way back in 1994).  Before then, it was only FractInt.

Yes, Jesse has created a wonderful application for exploring and producing very nice images and videos!!   
 
Each program that somebody creates usually starts out as something they want to use for playing around with.  Therefore it tends to work the way the designer thinks and uses tools.  Afterwards, they may make it available to the public, but by then, they have not really considered how the average User works with such things.  So some of these generators are easy to use and some are not, all depending on the individual User.  Everybody has their own preferences.
