Some days I don't care a fig for newtons...(dodges thrown objects) - they can be very fun to explore, though, full of surprises sometimes.

You can keep UltraFractal - my last bout with the evaluation version had me screaming at it, and I can just imagine the mess I would have now with multiple accounts in WinXP. It did not make me want to pay out money for it! I'll stick with FE and anything else that keeps its files where I want them.

"...outside coloring algorithm<--(whatever that is)" - lol - I just poke the buttons too  wink

Yes, there is always one favorite program for all fractal enthusiasts.   And that usually is the first or second program that they have spent a lot of time on (and the one that they first started getting good images with).    cheesy

For myself, I will always have an affection for the Kai's Power Tools (KPT) plugin that allows one to do fractal explorations.   I purchased version 2 when it was released back in 1993/1994 and started creating images which I had not been capable of rendering with some of the other applications that were available (the choices and quality were quite limited back then).

My first love was Winfract, the windowed version of Fractint - which I also used extensively a bit later, even dedicated an old 486 to it for a while. I tried many others, but found Fractal Explorer to have the widest range and flexibility combined with ease of use, and the price is right! I think it was easier for me to get into it because I had worked with all the others. Being able to run it from a CD is a big plus when I want to turn others on to the world of fractals. Can UF do that? Ha. smiley

Then you may be interested to know that a considerable bit of recent effort has been made to get FractInt working as a regular Windows application.   The FractInt Developers discussion list has been quite active over the past few months.

Can UF do that?  Ha.  smiley

Yes, there are some individuals that would lead others to believe it is the "Ultra" fractal generator.   But knowledgeable people without agendas know better.    wink  cheesy  wink

Now that would be nice, a windowed Fractint, since I have DOS-less Microfat now. But I have too many toys already sad
