hi all,

i am just wondering why the logo section of the gallery gets so few uploads ... i think it is a great way to show others their artwork, and
it would increase the attractivity of the forum cheesy

it is easy as follows:

just upload a *apropriate* banner to the logo section of the gallery and it will be included in the banner rotator

just take care of the size, maximum height is 100 pixels

I was going to post this as a logo for the forum, but it doesn't shrink very well.

If you don't believe me about it not shrinking well...  see for yourself!

105 pixels is just not tall enough for some designs  hurt

I'll try a few that fit!

righty right

perhaps try cutting a bit more from the reflection, the illusion of reflection would be even better, and then the width would be a bit more apropriate cheesy

hi all, i am just wondering why the logo section of the gallery gets so few uploads ...
i think it is a great way to show others their artwork, and it would increase the
    attractivity of the forum

just take care of the size, maximum height is 105 pixels

I really think there should be a few more guide lines concerning the Banners:
  •  Total bytes should be limited to no more than 175 or 200 KB.
  •  The actual "wording" should be located on the left-hand side, and
preferably within the first 800 or 1024 pixels.
  •  Try to use the best compression possible without loss of quality.
  •  etc...

Take this image for example:
    http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=979
It is probably the largest in terms of bytes being downloaded, 553.1 KB (566,377 bytes).  But if it were saved using a simple graphic tool like IrfanView, at a compression level of 9, then it would only be around 171 KB (175,904 bytes).  That is less than a third of the size it currently is.  Why do people need to download something that is over half a megabyte??

And here is another one, but not so dramatically large:
    http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=269
This is only around 242.8 KB (248,656 bytes).  But using IrfanView again with a compression level of 9, I got it down to 184 KB (189,416 bytes).  That is almost a 25 percent savings in file size.

you are absolutely right, and i think it should be limited to even more, lets say moderate 128kb
the official wording is:

"fractalforums.com - the possibilities are infinite"

128-KB might be just a bit too low, which is why I made the 175-KB suggestion.  I made that decision based upon the current image sizes, and what they could be reduced to.  Some may not get down to the 128-KB range, without a bit of quality loss.

But if we keep the words on the left-hand side, then those with a smaller monitor resolution will still be able to read what should be seen by everybody on every page (if kept within the first few hundred pixels).

Now...  who should go in and re-compress some of these older Banners to get them down to a smaller file size??  Without changing the current dimensions.
