Runes

http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=1959

Another Mandelbrot with one of my patented "multi-spectral" colormaps. This one's a deep zoom.

Center: -1.1857554161523720463268124566477101047674 + 0.30481741290446463112113937111379949831891i

Horizontal side length: about 5.5x10-23

Not an especially deep deep zoom but still it took four hours to render on a dual-core 2.5GHz E5200 with a multithreaded rendering engine.

The iteration range spanned is from over 5000 (outermost greys) to a bit less than 22,000 (deep red "runes"). The color algorithm takes smoothed iterations, maps a smooth blue-to-red gradient over these, and then adds higher-frequency pulsations of hue, saturation, and luminance; one weak luminance pulsation with a period of 27 iterations brings out the lightninglike filaments that bind things together in this region of the M-set, while a stronger, longer-period one keeps the seahorse cores and edges contrasting.

The image is of an embedded Julia not especially close to a minibrot from the center of an embedded Julia from deep in the triple spiral valley of a minibrot on the upper "lightning bolt" flanking the M-set's spike. The first embedded Julia is from a filament very close to where it joins a seahorse spiral, and this seems to have resulted in the spirals here having "icicles" hanging inward.
