Help with NetRender on 1.16 mac?

I've been attempting to use Mandelbulber 1.16's NetRender using two Macs, one 2013 and one 2011, but every time I attempt it, the software crashes. I can get to the stage where the settings are transmitted, but attempting to render an animation causes the more powerful computer's Mandelbulber to crash and the weaker one to not do anything at all. Is there any solution to this?
Also - it is impossible to use NetRender using a Windows computer and a Mac, correct?

It's a bug and I never had the chance to investigate the problem properly (same story using OSX together with Windows, in principle you can combine them). Although it does not occur on all parameters. A solution might be to start the client without GUI as stated  here > http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?topic=14302.msg60589#msg60589

Or I would try using a Linux box as server.

Running the client in nogui mode failed. The server still stops working (though it doesn't crash.)
