Looks like a Pickover stalk type rendering of a tree IFS. I'm interested in what the actual fractal looks like (i.e. when you further iterate
just keeping the squares as white and not rendering the spiral).

To me it seems like the fractal is a fairly simple (90 degree angles) tree.

Nice fractal! I did something similar once with L-systems but it was not easy to get nice spirals, certainly no where near the elegance of this solution! I'm not sure if just any ol' 90 degree tree would produce golden spirals.

Does anyone know if he's written a paper about it? I searched google but only found news stories (and this forum)
