Shapes only exists in our heads.

« on: October 26, 2014, 01:49:32 PM »

These two are my first zoom videos into the "Cubic Partial BS Real". Using the folding features within this set to create nice patterns, while navigating through the depths feels familiar because of the similarity to the Mandelbrot set. While the main structure (the way shapes pile up while zooming down a center) is about the same, the julias look very different. Because of the symmetry they look more like faces and creatures.

Awesome man! So cool to see someone zooming into my fractal definitions! Many of these I haven't even explored yet! wink

But none of this would have been possible without Kalles Fraktaler implementing them for us!  wink

could fit but a little to restricted to "zooming" consider it just as included in "the possibilities are infinite" cheesy

Awesome videos, we are just in the beginning of exploring these formulas.
And since there are in theory 64 combinations of cubic formulas, I hope stardust4ever will define more of them.

And... what about quadruple formulas... smiley

I agree! Take a look at this thread:
http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?topic=19885.0

I did such movie myself long time ago, which is a Julia set varying the parameters:
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/HfS-mlTyqJE&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/v/HfS-mlTyqJE&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

I am thinking how it would look the Julia equivalents of these abs functions would look like varying the parameters instead of zooming......

Regarding julias, they produce neat result deep zooming usually just around the zero points provide interesting results as well and this area is quite interesting for the morphing seeds as well

would be nice to have deep zooming in julias as well

As well as well as well cheesy

I have messed around with Julia rendering in Fractal Extreme. One caveat with Julias is sameness. Another is precision.

You can place a Julia on the boarder of the set by matching a minibrot at deep zoom levels. If you pick the zero point inside the main Cartoid of the satellite mini, about 25% from the crest of elephant valley to the point of contact with the large circle, then zooming into the Julia will eventually produce a circular event horizon instead of a Mandelbrot shape. Zooming into the zero point of a Julia will allow you to see the entire zoom sequence at half the depth but also takes double arbitrary precision, ie you need > 2x bits of precision to zoom 2^x deep. With Mandelbrot typically > X bits is sufficient. In Fractal Extreme you can only add 100 extra bits of precision, and this maxes out in a (0,0) Julia zoom at above 200 zooms.

I have no idea what the burning ship and other ABS fractals look like in Julia mode, but the FX plugins written by Panzerboy do support Julia mode.

I think Julias are especially good for making parameter varying movies without zooming and would be awesome to do even without high precision.
When I get some time I will definitely do it, if not someone else takes this idea and make it first.  wink
It would be awesome to see the Buffalo Julia varying parameters. It is a really interesting fractal!

i  think julias are quite undervalued wink

check out the example image, the thing i did is zoom into a small minibrot, and when moving the julia seed just inside that minibrot and zoom very deep into the julia area (0,0) you can get quite the interesting stuff
they are related, i know, but deep zooming into julias is undervalued cheesy we always check the big pictures of the julias, but it is wrong, when moving a seed in a veeeery tiny area around a minibrot, you get quite decent results and morphs when scaling big enough, in fact, any minibrot produces nice julia animations, if the scale is set accordingly in the julia!!!

To each their own, but I've always enjoyed videos that vary the parameters more than zooming videos.  Here are a few more Julia parameter videos - the first one is a conventional walk from the Elephant Valley to the Seahorse Valley, the other uses one of Paul Carlson's orbit traps on a regular Julia formula, and the final one is a short Barnsley Julia.

Varying parameters .... that's what I used to think morphing ment. The fractals really come alive like this! Color cycling only gives the illusion of motion, nothing really changes. I did a movie that combined zooming and color cycling to enhance this effect :

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/7L-GW96nkY4&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/v/7L-GW96nkY4&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

But it would be great to be able to combine all that stuff (zooming, color cycling and morphing). But keeping the zoom point locked to a certain shape will be the challenge. Any relation on the path of the julia coordinates and the way the special points in a morphing julia move ... ?
